Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has approved a resolution on studying orientation for solar power development to supplement clean electricity source for the country.

A project to install two 500/200kV-450MVA transformers as well as 500kV power distribution devices at Pleiku 2 transformer station in Ia Kenh commune, in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai’s Pleiku city, were put into operation on June 10.

At the regular Press Conference of the Government on May 4, 2016, answering questions from journalists about the government’s viewpoint on planning and implementation plan of hydropower projects in Central Highlands region, Mr. Mai Tien Dung, Chairmen of Government Office affirmed: the Government has steered related ministries, sectors and localities to check, correct and supplement hydropower planning in Central Highlands region with a multipurpose target as power generation, flood control in rainy season and water supply for the lowland in dry season.

The Central Power Corporation and Finland’s ABB Oy Company launched mini Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system projects in the central and Central Highlands regions with the aim to develop a smart power grid there.

On May 17, the National Assembly Standing Committee (NASC) spent its last working morning on reviewing socio-economic, security and defense efficiency of the Tan Rai and Nhan Co bauxite projects, funded by the Vietnam National Coal and Minerals Group (VINACOMIN).
