As many as fourteen leading Australian mining equipment and technology services (METS) companies are visiting Vietnam from 9-13 March to attend the 2nd Mining Vietnam Exhibition and Conference in Hanoi and explore business and collaboration opportunities.

The remaining coal resources of Vietnam are forecasted to be quite large, but not large explorative reserves, especially since the mining conditions are increasingly difficult, increasing the costs, which makes it difficult to compete with imported coal sources. As there is no State clear mechanism and policy for coal import, that leads to difficulties for enterprises to deploy coal import, as well as invest in coal mining abroad.

Vietnamese Government has issued new Decree on Environmental Protective Fees (EPFs) in mining minerals, according to which the EPF for: crude oil is 100,000 dong/ton, natural and coal gases -  50 dong/m3, associated gas – 35 dong/m3.

The Leadership of Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation (Vinacomin) has directed to maintain coal inventory level at 10 % of the total mining generation in order to supply coal amount for domestic power thermal plants with a certain reserve margin to contribute in guaranteeing the national energy security.
