Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long has signed Decision No. 1126/QD-BCT dated May 14, 2026, promulgating the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Action Plan to implement Directive No. 10/CT-TTg dated March 30, 2026, issued by the Prime Minister on strengthening electricity conservation and promoting rooftop solar power development.

In nuclear power projects, the construction or installation phase is often perceived as the stage that decides success or failure. However, international experience reveals a different reality: Most of the greatest risks - regarding cost, schedule, and even safety - are "shaped" very early, before the project enters Front-End Engineering Design (FEED). For countries newly developing nuclear power like Vietnam, correctly identifying this "decisive point" is of particular importance.

Hanoi, Vietnam – At the forum “Improving and Perfecting Regulations for the Development of Gas-to-Power Projects and Energy Storage Systems in Vietnam for 2026 -2030” co-hosted by the Electricity Authority of Vietnam and the Vietnam Energy Association (VEA), CRRC delivered a keynote presentation titled “CRRC BESS Technology Empowering Vietnam’s Energy Transition” highlighting how its technological expertise and global project experience can support the growth of Vietnam’s energy storage sector.

SMARTGEN, a Vietnam-based energy solutions company, has accelerated its residential solar installation business in Vietnam in cooperation with POEN. This cooperation is meaningful in that SMARTGEN has strengthened its EPC capabilities in the residential solar market in Vietnam, while also securing a residential ESS supply system through its partnership with POEN.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long held a meeting with the Zarubezhneft-Rosatom consortium to discuss offshore wind power development in Vietnam, focusing on investment procedures and localisation.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has signed Directive No. 10/CT-TTg dated March 30, 2026, on strengthening electricity savings and promoting the development of rooftop solar power across Vietnam. The Directive sets out key targets for the 2026–2030 period, including achieving at least 10% adoption of rooftop solar systems among public offices and households nationwide, alongside the introduction of state budget support policies for this energy source. For 2026 alone, the Government aims to reduce total national electricity consumption by a minimum of 3%, and at least 10% during peak summer months (April–July).

March 30, 2026, HS Hyosung Advanced Materials has put into operation a 17.5 MWp rooftop solar power system at its largest production site in Vietnam, marking a major step toward building a “Smart Green Factory” model while enhancing ESG competitiveness and meeting increasingly stringent global supply chain standards.

On March 5, 2026, SPEV Sustainability Vietnam Co., Ltd. and Changshin Dong Nai Co., Ltd. held a contract-signing ceremony to deploy a rooftop solar power system at the Changshin factory. The agreement marks an important milestone in the company’s ESG roadmap and its efforts to reduce emissions in pursuit of the RE100 initiative. Nuriflex Vietnam Co., Ltd. is participating in the project as the EPC general contractor.

At the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), Vice Minister Nguyen Hoang Long recently chaired a meeting with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP – Denmark) to discuss the progress of the South Central Offshore Wind Power Project No. 1 and future cooperation directions. At the meeting, CIP representatives provided an update on the cooperation progress between CIP and the Vietnam National Industry – Energy Group (PVN) in developing offshore wind power projects in the South Central region.

At the invitation of General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, General Secretary To Lam will pay a state visit to Laos on February 5. This marks his first overseas visit since the 14th National Party Congress. On this occasion, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos published a noteworthy article on the Savan 1 Wind Power Plant – a project invested in and developed in Laos by a Vietnamese enterprise.

As Vietnam accelerates the development of wind and solar power under Power Development Plan VIII (PDP8), the national power system is facing rising demands for flexibility, stability, and controllability. In this context, energy storage, particularly battery-based systems, must evolve beyond capacity expansion and be digitalized to become essential infrastructure that ensures safe operation, long-term economic viability, and sustainable integration of renewable energy.

Amid the global energy transition and Vietnam’s commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050, greening industrial parks (IPs) is no longer an option but an imperative. Emerging trade barriers such as the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and sustainability reporting requirements under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) are exerting direct pressure on Vietnam’s export-oriented enterprises, compelling them to demonstrate that their products are manufactured using clean energy. A recent field survey conducted across four representative industrial parks, Amata and Long Duc in Dong Nai Province, and Kinh Bac (Que Vo) and VSIP in Bac Ninh Province provides a comprehensive picture of the current status, progress made, and the legal and technical bottlenecks facing the deployment of rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

On the morning of January 15, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son attended the launch ceremony of Subproject 1: Population relocation, resettlement, and site clearance for the Ninh Thuan 1 Nuclear Power Plant, held in Khanh Hoa Province.

On December 26, 2025, the Savan 1 Wind Power Plant, which was invested in and developed by T&T Group in Laos, officially commenced commercial operation, marking an important milestone for T&T Group in the renewable energy sector and contributing to the realization of the goal of increasing electricity imports from Laos to Vietnam in accordance with the agreement between the two governments.

Amid mounting difficulties and challenges, and in the absence of a common consensus on investment in gas-fired power projects using domestic gas and imported LNG, investors in this sector have recently submitted a proposal to the Prime Minister outlining three key principles to resolve the remaining disagreements. These include: (1) Reasonable and fair risk allocation; (2) Two key proposals to remove existing bottlenecks; and (3) Addressing other bankability-related issues.
