On September 6, 2023, in Ho Chi Minh City, The Power Engineering Construction Consulting Joint Stock Company 2 (PECC2) signed a consulting contract to survey and establish a feasibility study report and specialized reports of the project to supply power from the national grid for Con Dao district (Ba Ria - Vung Tau province) with Power Project Management Board 3 – The Representative of ing Vietnam Electricity of Vietnam (A project investor).

Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) informed that the electricity generation of the whole system in July 2023 reached 26.20 billion kWh - an increase of 7.1% in comparison with the same period in 2022. The accumulated in the first 7 months of 2023, electricity generation of the whole system reached 160.58 billion kWh - an increase of 1.9% in comparison with the same period in 2022.

The General Director of the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) has just chaired a meeting on the progress of the sections Quang Trach - Quynh Luu - Thanh Hoa - Nam Dinh 1 - Pho Noi (for short as Quang Trach - Pho Noi) of the transmission 500 kV line. The conference on the operation and production of coal-fired power plants in the Northern region has just been held by Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) on the afternoon of June 19, 2023. There were 24 investors of coal-fired power plants in the Northern region in attendance, including the Power Generation Corporations 1, 2, 3 (EVN member units), Vinacomin Power Corporation, PetroVietnam Power Corporation, BOT investors and the investors of the independent power plants.

The Government Office issued Notice 216/TB-VPCP on June 8, 2023, at the conclusion of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha at the meeting on the situation of electricity supply in the dry season in 2023. In conclusion, the Government requested Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) to develop scenarios for managing electricity supply according to the guidance of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) including the scenarios of lacking power plants and having to cut off electricity.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has warned that the northern power grid faces a shortfall of approximately 4,350MW. It has a median daily generation of approximately 30.9 million kWh; however, the largest daily output can reach 50.8 million kWh.

The electricity of Vietnam (EVN) forecasted that in the next June and July, the North will enter the peak hot weather and the load of the national power system will increase higher than planned. With the hydrological situation and the slow progress of new power projects, the North would likely lack thousands of MW of electricity in this hot season.
