On June 22, 2026, Minister of Industry and Trade Le Manh Hung chaired a working session at the Ministry’s headquarters with Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and relevant agencies to comprehensively review the power supply situation during the first half of 2026 and discuss solutions for the remainder of the year amid increasingly complex weather conditions and rising electricity demand.

At exactly 00:01 on June 1, 2026, Vietnam’s Pleikrông Hydropower Plant (100 MW) and Sê San 3 Hydropower Plant (260 MW) officially entered the Vietnam Competitive Wholesale Electricity Market (VWEM). This milestone marks an important step toward improving operational and business efficiency, optimizing revenue generation, and enhancing transparency in the management and operation of hydropower plants within Vietnam Electricity (EVN).

Mr. Nguyen Tai Anh, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Electricity (EVN), recently held a meeting with a delegation from NOVATEK (Russia), led by Mr. Sergey G. Soloviev, Vice Chairman of the Board and Director of Prospective Projects. During the meeting, both sides discussed potential cooperation in developing LNG-to-power project chains in Vietnam, covering fuel supply, LNG receiving and regasification infrastructure, and power generation projects.

On April 22 in Hanoi, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and Hyosung Heavy Industries (Republic of Korea) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a cooperation framework and promote future investment opportunities. On the same day, EVN President & CEO Nguyen Anh Tuan met with Kim Tae Min, Executive Vice President of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), to discuss cooperation in power technologies, energy storage, transmission, and new power development.

The Ninh Binh Provincial People’s Committee has issued a Decision approving the investment policy and, at the same time, approving the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) as the investor for the Nam Dinh - Hau Loc 220kV transmission line project.

In the first quarter of 2026, the global situation continued to evolve in a complex and unpredictable manner, directly affecting the production and business activities of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and its member units. In this context, EVN closely followed the directives of the Party, Government, ministries, and sectors, while proactively implementing response measures to overcome difficulties and maintain stable operations. On March 26, 2026, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and Hiep Phuoc Power Company Limited officially signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the Hiep Phuoc LNG Power Plant (Phase 1), while also breaking ground on the project in Hiep Phuoc Commune, Ho Chi Minh City.

At the 2026 construction consultancy conference held in Hanoi, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) Chairman Dang Hoang An called on consultancy units to improve quality, enhance technology application, and prioritize investor interests to ensure the effectiveness of power projects.

The Quynh Lap LNG power plant in central Vietnam will use gas turbines and generators supplied by GE Vernova, according to a cooperation agreement recently signed with Petrovietnam Power Corporation (PV Power).

At 11:30 a.m. on January 20, 2026, following the successful completion of the 72-hour trial run of Unit 3, all three units (3 × 40 MW) of the Thac Ba Hydropower Plant were officially returned to commercial operation after rehabilitation.

The People’s Committee of Quang Ninh Province has issued Decision No. 610/QD-UBND approving the investment policy and investor selection for the 500 kV LNG Quang Ninh – Quang Ninh transmission line project.
