On October 17, 2025, in Xuan Quang Commune, Lao Cai Province, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) held the inauguration ceremony for the 500 kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line project. This is a national key project celebrating the success of the 1st Party Congress of the Government Party Committee (2025 - 2030 tenure) and towards the 14th National Party Congress.

The European Union (EU) has just announced a support package worth 430 million euros to promote the Bac Ai Hydropower Project – one of the key projects under Vietnam's Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP). The information was given at the 2nd Global Gateway Forum taking place in Brussels (Belgium) on October 9-10, 2025, with the participation of EU Energy Commissioner Jozef Síkela, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son and representatives of countries and international organizations.

Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son has just chaired the 6th session of the State Steering Committee on important national and key programs, works and projects in the energy sector, with the participation of leaders of ministries, sectors and localities (Hanoi, Phu Tho, Ninh Binh, Quang Tri, etc, Da Nang, Can Tho, Dong Nai).

As Vietnam increases the share of renewable energy (RE) in its power mix, towards 28-36% by 2030 and 74-75% by 2050, grid stability becomes a critical challenge. Inverter-based RE sources such as solar and wind are variable by nature, meaning the power system needs firming capacity to ensure a reliable supply, especially during periods when RE generation is low. Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES), particularly Pumped Hydro Storage (PHS) and long-duration BESS (discharge continuously for 8 hours or more), plays a key role in enabling this. Without it, Vietnam risks curtailing clean energy, increasing reliance on fossil backup, and missing its energy transition goals.

On September 16, 2025, speaking at the National Conference to thoroughly grasp and implement four important resolutions of the Politburo, General Secretary To Lam requested to organize the synchronous and urgent implementation of the contents of Resolutions 59, 70, 71 and 72 at all levels.

On September 15, 2025, in Quang Binh, Power Project Management Board No. 2 (EVNPMB2) and the consortium of Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 1 (PECC1) and Power Engineering Consulting Joint Stock Company 3 (PECC3) signed Contract Package No. 07 (TV07-QTII): Consultancy on Bidding and Support for EPC Contract Management of Quang Trach 2 LNG Thermal Power Plant.

On September 4, 2025 in Hanoi, within the framework of the Vietnam-Italy Business Forum organized by the Ministry of Finance, the Italian Trade Promotion Agency (ITA) and the Italian National Confederation of Industry (Confindustria), the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and the Italian State Development Bank (CDP) awarded a letter of intent to cooperate on the Bac Ai Storage Hydropower Plant project.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) is drafting a Circular that sets out the pricing mechanism for electricity generation services provided by Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), as well as the key terms of power purchase agreements applicable to this new type of facility.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) recently held a mid-term review conference (both in-person and online) on the implementation of Decree No. 57/2025/ND-CP on the Direct Power Purchase Agreement (DPPA) mechanism and Decree No. 58/2025/ND-CP on the development of renewable and new energy. The event gathered representatives from ministries, sectors, local authorities, the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), as well as numerous energy enterprises. Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long chaired the conference.

On the morning of August 19, 2025, in Trị An Commune, Đồng Nai Province, Vietnam Electricity (EVN) held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Trị An Hydropower Plant Expansion Project. This is one of 250 projects nationwide being launched or inaugurated to mark the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2).

A representative of Karpowership (Turkey) presented the floating power plant solution during a working session with the leadership of Vietnam Electricity (EVN) on July 7 in Hanoi.

On June 24, 2025, in Frankfurt (Federal Republic of Germany), Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and the German Development Bank (KfW) signed a loan agreement worth EUR 65 million for the Tri An Hydropower Plant Expansion Project. This is the first project for which EVN has received direct financing from KfW without a government guarantee, marking a significant milestone in enhancing EVN’s financial credibility and its ability to access international capital markets.

At the 1st Party Congress of the Electricity Authority for the 2025–2030 term, the Authority outlined its strategic vision and objectives under the motto: “Solidarity, Democracy, Discipline, Breakthrough, Development.” The primary goal is to take the lead in institutional reform, spearhead the sustainable energy transition, and ensure a safe, reliable, and reasonably priced electricity supply. The Authority also aims to proactively engage in international integration, contributing to the national target of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050 through a set of specific key tasks.

On June 11, in Quang Binh, EVN held a working session with the Quang Binh Provincial Party Committee regarding projects at the Quang Trach Power Center. At the meeting, EVN Chairman of the Members’ Council Dang Hoang An proposed that the Provincial People's Committee, the Government Office, and the Ministry of Industry and Trade continue to assign EVN as the investor of the Quang Trach 3 LNG Thermal Power Plant Project.

On May 30, 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued Decision No. 1509/QD-BCT, approving the Implementation Plan for the Adjustment of the National Power Development Plan for the period 2021–2030, with a vision to 2050 (hereinafter referred to as the "Implementation Plan").
