Construction Begins on Solar Power Project on Trung Thu Hydropower Reservoir

 - On August 28, 2026, in Muong Lay Ward, Dien Bien Province, Dien Bien Solar Power Joint Stock Company, a member of PC1 Group, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Trung Thu Solar Power Project, which will be developed on the reservoir of the Trung Thu Hydropower Plant. PC1 Group is serving as both the project investor and EPC contractor.

Overview of the groundbreaking ceremony.

The project has a capacity of 72 MW and is expected to generate approximately 106 million kWh of clean electricity annually. Commercial power generation is scheduled to begin in December 2026, with the project expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.

Floating Solar Power Combined with BESS

The project adopts a floating solar power model combined with string inverters and a battery energy storage system (BESS). The system can store electricity when generation is high and supply additional power when needed, helping regulate output and improve the flexibility and efficiency of renewable energy utilization.

Developing the project on the reservoir will make effective use of the water surface and existing energy infrastructure, while reducing the need for land. The model also requires advanced capabilities in surveying, design, technology integration, construction and safety management under the specific conditions of a reservoir environment.

Supporting Green Energy and Local Development

During the preparation and implementation of the project, PC1 has received close attention and support from Dien Bien Province, relevant authorities and local administrations in completing procedures, preparing the site and addressing difficulties.

Once completed, the project will add clean electricity to the Northern power system, contributing to energy security and socio-economic development in the locality, creating jobs, increasing local revenues and supporting Viet Nam’s transition toward a greener and more sustainable energy system.

PC1 Expands Its Renewable Energy Value Chain

The Trung Thu project represents another step in PC1’s strategy to expand its renewable energy portfolio. By serving as both the project investor and EPC contractor, PC1 can take an integrated approach across the entire project lifecycle, from project development, design, and equipment supply to construction, system integration, commissioning, and operation.

PC1 is committed to closely controlling project schedule, quality, safety and environmental protection throughout the implementation process. Once completed, the project will be operated in accordance with strict requirements for safety, efficiency, reliability and environmental protection, ensuring sustainable long-term value.

With more than 60 years of experience in the power sector, PC1 has developed comprehensive capabilities in the design, construction, installation and operation of power facilities, while also participating in several large-scale wind and solar power projects. This practical experience provides a strong foundation for PC1 to strengthen further its investment, EPC and operational capabilities in the renewable energy sector.

As part of its working program in Dien Bien, PC1’s management team also visited the Trung Thu Hydropower Plant, meeting and encouraging employees working at the plant. The management team recognized their sense of responsibility, efforts and proactive approach in managing and operating the plant safely, stably and efficiently. The management also asked the plant to maintain strict operational discipline, strengthen inspections and risk controls, ensure the safety of personnel and equipment, and proactively coordinate with relevant units during the implementation of the Trung Thu Solar Power Project./.
