On December 20, 2017, in the Government Office, Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Vuong Dinh Hue received Vice President of Exxon Mobil, Mr. Paul Greemwood. At the meeting Mr. Paul Greemwood confirmed that Exxon Mobil will continue to take interest in cooperation and investment with the partners in Vietnam coming time. On March 26, at the investment promotion conference in 2017 of Quang Nam province, an investment cooperation agreement on a gas project of Blue Whale field between Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN), Exxon Mobil Corporation (USA) and Quang Nam province has been signed with the witness of the Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

According to information from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, American multinational oil and gas corporation (Exxon Mobil) and PetroVietnam (PVN) are seeking a location with area of about 200ha for developing a 4000-5000MW power plant and a gas processing plant, among that, for the first phase, an area of 100ha will be used for 1500 MW power plant. Total investment of this super project estimates up to USD 20 billion.
