The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has spent nearly 480 trillion VND (22.3 billion USD) to develop power plants and grids from 2011-2015 in compliance with the national power development plan.

In the first 9 months of 2014, most power projects of EVN were implemented on schedule, especially 4 units of power plants with a total capacity of 1622 MW have been synchronized with the National Power System.

According to the World Bank (WB)’s assessment, Vietnam has achieved the highest rural electrification rate in the world as a developing country.

The EVN Northern Power Corporation is targeting two basic objectives in 2014, including striving to sell electricity to 100 percent of households in rural areas and ensuring all households using electricity are charged prices as prescribed by the government. The corporation will also ensure progress on the construction of its power projects and reliable operation. One of the most important solutions is to improve investment efficiency.

Ensuring the progress of the smart power grid development project is an important factor to reduce power transmission, distribution costs and other costs to develop power sources. This objective was also stated in Prime Ministerial Decision 1670/2012/QD-TTg.
