As well known, by the end of 2020, in Vietnam, there were put into operation power generation projects with a total installed capacity of 69,300 MW, of which the renewable energy capacity was 21,000 MW including 3,600 MW small hydro, 300 MW biomass power, more than 600 MW wind power, 16,500 MW solar power (7,900 MW ground projects and 8,600 MW rooftop ones) accounted for 30.6% of the total capacity of the whole national system, in particular, the solar power (ground and rooftop projects) reached 23.9%.

According to the updated report of 'non-hydro' renewable energy sources of Vietnam Energy Magazine - VER (August 2020), the total onshore wind power technical potential of Vietnam is about 217 GW, while the total offshore wind power technical potential is about 160 GW.

The Mekong Delta of Soc Trang province has risen to an attractive destination for investors in renewable energy, especially wind power.

Trung Nam Construction Investment Joint Stock Company (Trung Nam Group) and Trung Nam Wind Power Joint Stock Company have signed EPC contract for wind power project in Ninh Thuan province. The EPC package for construction and installation of the project also has been signed. The equipment suppliers for the project are Green Comos (India) and ENERCON Group (Germany).

The Management Board of Nhon Hoi Economic Zone (Binh Dinh province) has handed the certificate of investment for Nhon Hoi wind power project, with a registered capital investment of $109 million.

The feed-in tariff for wind power projects could rise above the currently regulated 7.8 US cents in an effort to pave the way for the development of more wind power projects in Vietnam.

The Gemini consortium has signed all construction, operations and financing contracts yesterday with a total construction budget of nearly EUR 3 billion. With more than 20 parties involved 70 percent of this budget will be provided on the basis of project financing – making Gemini the largest-ever project financed offshore wind farm. For the Gemini project Siemens will deliver 150 wind turbines with a capacity of 4 megawatts (MW) and a rotor diameter of 130 meters each.

After field survey of wind potential coastal track in Vinh Chau town, Soc Trang province Enercon Group (Germany), a world-wide leading wind power equipment manufacturer has pledged to mobily fund and supply equipment for Soc Trang wind power project.
