During the mission, the survey team of Enercon Group visited locations, where wind potential was prelimiyarily surveyed and assessed, expected by the Soc Trang provincial People's Committee for developing wind power projects.
According to assessment of Enercon Group team, Soc Trang is an area, which has a huge potential and favorable conditions for wind power development due to it’s long and large coastshore with higher wind velocities than those of other coastal provinces in the region and good favorable climat
Mr.Nguyen Trung Hieu, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee pledged to create finest conditions and hand over land for investors as soon as possible befor starting the project. The investor can completely believe to the Chairment’s commitment because of the project area has been planed and assessed with necessary natural conditions and technical parameters.
As shown in the Wind Resource Atlases of Southeast Asia with assessment of wind resource at locations in Vietnam selected from the map of World Bank, Soc Trang is one of provinces in Vietnam that possesses the huge wind potential and is feasible to develop large-scale wind power projects.
In Soc Trang, the total area with theoretical wind potential is 120,000 hectares, accounting for approximately 37% of the province area. In fact, many investors concern and intend to invest in wind power projects in Soc Trang coming time.
According to Soc Trang province’s master plan on wind power development to 2020 and outlook to 2030, Soc Trang has great advantage in invesment of wind power projects, concentrated along alluvial coastshore of districts as Cu Lao Dung, Tran De and Vinh Chau town.
Total investment for wind power projects under this plan until 2020 is estimated nearly VND8,300 billion. Preliminary estimate of total land area permanently occupied for wind power development plan in Soc Trang province is 490 hectares. This is mainly water surface and coastal mudflats.
In comparison with projects of other sectors, land area occupied for the project is smaller, therefore, the negative impact on local people’s life, economy and society should be not remarkable and it should also create convenient conditions for investors to speed up implementation of projects in the province.
