The Prime Minister (PM) has just approved the project “Adjusting the development planning of the coal industry in 2016 – 2020 period with outlook up to 2030” in which, the PM decided to adjust the list of some infrastructure projects; supplement the list and closed corner boundary coordinates of the projects for maintaining coal production.

The Prime Minister has just approved the adjustment project of Vietnam Coal industry development planning to 2020 and prospect till 2030.

On Aug 31, 2016, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) announced the adjustment project for Vietnam Coal Industry Development Planning to 2020 with the perspective up to 2030.

The Prime Minister agreed with the suggestions of the Ministry of Industry and Trade on adjusting and supplementing a number of urgent projects for meeting the maximum demand in the country, especially for power generation to the Coal industry development planning in  Vietnam until 2020 with prospect up to 2030 approved in Decision No. 60 / QD-TTg dated on Jan 9th, 2012.

The Prime Minister has agreed to supplement the Dong Phuong Condensate Processing Project at Can Tho city to Vietnam Petroleum Industry Development Planning.

The Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has agreed to supplement the Nhon Hoi Refining and Petrochemical Complex, Binh Dinh province (Victory project) to Oil and Gas industry Development Planning.

On the morning of October 26, at the Parliamentary Meeting on the socio-economic situation, Mr. Le Minh Chuan, the Secretary of Party Committee, Chairman of Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Corporation (Vinacomin), a delegate of the National Assembly of Quang Ninh province had a speech on analysis of the role of the coal sector with the subject "The role of the coal for the security of the national energy" and proposed the four issues needed to be to be urgently solved for helping development of the coal industry.

In the first two months of this year, the coal industry made positive changes. Coal production increased by four percent while consumption reached nearly six million tonnes, positively contributing to completing the industry’s set targets.  

According to the Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin), in the first three months of 2014, crude coal output came to an estimated 10.07 million tonnes, 26.7 percent of the year’s target and 95.92 percent of that in the same period last year. The corporation’s clean coal output was an estimated 8.73 million tonnes, 25.5 percent of the year’s target and 93.3 percent of that in the same period last year.

The Vietnamese coal industry will focus on strengthening the application of scientific and technological advances in production to increase labor productivity, reduce costs, and ensure worker safety in order to drive towards sustainable development.

  Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) has officially issued the Circular No16/2017/TT-BCT on grid connected and rooftop solar power development in which regulates the National Solar Power Development Planning (NSPDP) to be made once only. The following updates, additions and corrections for NSPDP are made when adjusting the National Power Development Planning (NPDP). Making, approving and announcing the NSPP are stipulated in the Prime Minister Decision No11/2017/QĐ-TTg on the mechanisms to stimulate developing solar power projects in Vietnam.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has agreed to lay down as a policy the establishment of the project  "National Energy Development Planning in 2016-2025 period with an outlook up to 2035".

At November 11 evening, in Ha Long city Quang Ninh Provincial Administration, Vinacomin and Northeast Coal Corporation held the 80th Anniversary of  Traditional Day of Miners - Traditional Day of Coal Industry (12/11/1936 – 12/11/2016). Chairman of National Assembly (NA), Mrs. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan attended and spoke at the ceremony.

On August 9, 2023, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) held a conference for publishing the National Energy and Mineral Development Planning (NEMDP) in a period of 2021 -2030 with a vision to 2050. Mr. Nguyen Hong Dien, Minister of MOIT chaired this conference. NEMDP in a period of 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 has been approved by the Prime Minister in the following decisions:

The Prime Minister has just approved the adjustment project of Vietnam Power Development Planning in 2011 - 2020 period with an outlook up to 2030, for an aim to sufficiently supply domestic electricity demand and meet the socio-economic development objective of the country with an average GDP growth of about 7.0% per year in 2016-2030 period.
