On September 12, 2015, a Preparatory Conference for establishment of the Medium and Small Hydropower - Green Energy Association (MSHP-GEA) took place in Hanoi under the chairmanship of Mr. Tran Viet Ngai, the President of Vietnam Energy Association (VEA), with participation of the VEA Steering  Committee members, ministries, agencies and hydropower, renewable energy enterprises.

The Vietnam Energy Association (VEA) has just sent a document to the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) and  Vietnam Electricity (EVN) on “Adjusting peak power generation hours and tariff of avoided costs for small and medium hydropower projects in 2021”.

A 9MW hydropower plant was inaugurated in Da Bac district in the northern province of Hoa Binh on January 7, bringing electricity to far-flung areas in the mountainous district.

On March 26, 2018, in headquarter of Southern Power Corporation of Electricity of Vietnam (EVNSPC) was held a signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on  Saigon Branch of MB to fund the medium and long term projects of EVNSPC for enhancing ability of the electricity distribution network.

On October 17, 2018, in Government Office, Vice Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung received Mr. Naser Al Hajri- Deputy general manager of Mubadala Petroleum Group (MP) from United Arabia Emirates (UAE) in charge of affairs in Southeast Asia. At the meeting, Mr. Naser Al Hajri expressed MP desire to develop the small oil and gas and renewable energy projects in Vietnam.

The Vietnam Energy Association (VEA) has just sent a document to the Government, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam "The proposal to increase the power purchase agreement for the small hydroelectric plants in 2023".
