On March 3, 2023, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), Minister Nguyen Hong Dien chaired a meeting with the leaders of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN), and Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (TKV), Power Generation 1, Power Generation 2, Power Generation- 3 Joint Stock Company, TKV Power Company, PVN Power Company, Northeast Coal Corporation; Ninh Binh Fertilizer Single Company Limited, Ha Bac Fertilizer and Chemical Joint Stock company and a number of the coal-fired thermal power plants on the coal supply and coal import for electricity and nitrogen fertilizer production.

A conference to agree and sign a cooperation agreement between Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin), South East Coal Trading Company (SECTC – Dong Bac Corporation) and Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), on long-term coal supply for Thermal power plants using anthracite coal in EVN has just taken place in Hanoi.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited the northern province of Quang Ninh on June 11 to inspect the production and supply of electricity at the Mong Duong Thermal Power Company, Quang Ninh Thermal Power JSC, as well as coal mining and supply for thermal power plants at Ha Tu Coal JSC.

In order to ensure the highest coal supply for thermal power plants (TPPs) with a maximal generation at the current hot season, the leadership of Vinacomin has directed the subsidiaries to effort coal supply for TPPs at highest level.

On 12/12/2018, the first long-term coal contract for power projects between Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Holding Joint Stock Corporation (Vinacomin) and Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) was signed. On the occasion, Mr. Trinh Dinh Dung, Vice Prime Minister said: “this event confirmed the message "no coal shortage for electricity generation, no electricity shortage for economic development".

Government Office informed, the Prime Minister had the directions on ensuring coal supply for power generation.

Vinacomin is increasing production to ensure sufficient domestic coal supply and reduce the risks of an energy shortage.

The electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) exchanged the situation of coal supply in 2022, and the plans for the coal supply for power generation in 2023.

On December 4, 2021 in Hanoi held a meeting between the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) on the situation of coal supply for power production in 2021 and preparing the plan to supply coal for EVN's thermal power plants in 2022.

The leaders of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Holding Corporation (Vinacomin) had a working meeting to discuss activities on ensuring coal for electricity generation.

First 6 months of 2015, the member units of the Vietnam National Coal and Minerals Industries Hoilding Corporation Ltd - (Vinacomin) tried their best to maintain coal stable production, ensure employmenst for workers and actively invested for preparation to meet the rising coal demand, especially coal for electricity generation in coming time.

In the first 6 months of 2022, Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) has exceeded the set-out plan on coal production and sale for ensuring not to break the coal supply chain for power generation and economic development and to contribute to the national energy security guarantee.

On November 2, 2016 in Hanoi, the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (VN) in collaboration with the PetroVietnam Power Corporation (PV Power) held a cerymony to sign the principle contract to supply imported coal for the thermal power plants (PV Power TPP) invested by PVN.

The low water level in hydroelectricity reservoirs in the Central Highlands and central regions and the temporary suspension of gas supply to thermal power plants could affect electricity supply to the south, according to the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN).
