The first wind power plants in Soc Trang province, including Lac Hoa wind power, Quoc Vinh wind power and wind power No. 7 have just been closed by the Southern Power System Dispatch Center (A2) and the investors have successful energizing.

Prime Minister (PM) Nguyen Xuan Phuc has agreed as a policy equitization of power generation corporations (Gencos) under EVN, PVN and Vinacomin. By 2018, the groups are still in charge and holding dominant shares of equitized Gencos.

Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) affirms, the National Power System  satisfies sufficiently electricity for socio-economic needs.

Energy security of Vietnam will be affected by placing the too large focus as an over half of power generation to coal-fired thermal power plants, that the Green Incentive Development Center (GreenID) has warned on Sept.29, 2015.

At the power generation facility, usually the switches and cabling system installed may have to withstand possibly destructive effects of extreme temperatures, humidity or moisture, dust, mud, oil and solvents, corrosive chemicals, abrasion, vibration, and ultraviolet radiation from strong sunlight.

In the first eight months of 2021, gas demand for power generation declined due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic that negatively affected state budget revenues and the economy, as well as implementation of the national energy strategy.

On October 02, 2014, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) issued Circular No.30/2014/TT-BTC on  regulating the operation of competitive power generation market.

According to Mr. Dang Hoang An, General Director of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), with the increase in domestic coal prices for electricity production and updating the input parameters such as the prices of imported coal, oil, gas and exchange rates in comparison  with parameters used for calculation in plan of the first 9 months of 2016, the total power generation and business costs of EVN will increase about VND 7,230 billion in 2017.

At 5.47 am Feb. 15, 2017, the Unit No1 of Trung Son Hydropower Plant (HPP has officially synchronized with National Power System. This is the first hydropower project in Vietnam invested by World Bank (WB) funds.  

Government Office informed, the Prime Minister had the directions on ensuring coal supply for power generation.

Government Office has announced the conclusions of the Vice Prime Minister (VPM) Trinh Đinh Dung at the meeting on the thermal power projects under Duyen Hai Power Center and the project of transshipment port for coal supplying thermal power centers in Mekong river delta area, that VPM has agreed in principle to assign Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) to additionally invest several new power generation projects approved in Power Planning VII revised.

The electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) exchanged the situation of coal supply in 2022, and the plans for the coal supply for power generation in 2023.
