Investing in renewable energy sources, particularly wind power, is key to address Vietnam’s growing electricity demand and to ensure the nation’s energy security as well as green growth strategy. The successful path towards this ultimate goal now depend on what policies and technologies Vietnam will take on to make the nation’s fully untapped potential a truly reality.

According to the Development Strategy of the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) to 2030, with a vision to 2045 approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 538/QD-TTg dated April 1, 2021, EVN will develop into a strong, sustainable and effective economic Group.

Vietnam need to carry out many solutions to supply enough energy for social-economic development as well as pursue a sustainable development in the long term, according to experts.

The Renewable Energy Development Strategy (REDS) to 2030 with an outlook up to 2050 recently issued by Vietnamese Government has showed the large changes in Energy Development Strategy in Vietnam. In REDS Vietnamese Government attaches a special importance to hydropower, wind, solar, biomass, biogas energy and biological fuel.

The Prime Minister has just approved the Vietnam Renewable Energy Development Strategy to 2030, outlook up to 2050.

On February 22, 2024, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) organized a conference (directly and online with localities) to deploy Vietnam's hydrogen energy development strategy until 2030 with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister (in Decision No. 165/QD-TTg dated February 7, 2024).

On the morning of September 24, 2019, in Vietnam - Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP), Thuan An Town, Binh Duong Province, Becamex IDC Corporation, Sembcorp Smart Energy Solutions company (a member of Sembcorp Industries) and VSIP Joint Venture company held a ceremony for signing business cooperation and introduction of solar power projects.

Denmark is willing to share its experience regarding technologies and products with Vietnam to help the country achieve goals of energy and sustainable growth, said a Danish official.

Never the sustainable energy issue for developing the country has been hotter than recent time. In that context, on June 17, 2022, the Vietnam Energy Association (VEA) held a conference on "Mechanisms, policies, solutions for sustainable energy development in Vietnam" in Hanoi.

On November 29, 2018, in Hanoi, under direction of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), Vietnam Energy Association (VEA) in cooperation with the Central Economic Committee, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), Vietnam National Coal – Mineral Industries Holding Corporation (Vinacomin) ad Petrovietnam (PVN) held the international conference on “ Sustainable energy development and environmental protection in Vietnam”.

The Prime Minister ratifying Decision No. 1855/QĐ-TTg, dated December 27th, 2007 on Vietnam National Energy Development Strategy up to 2020 and vision to 2050, with the following contents:

On 17 January 2014 afternoon, in Hanoi, Institute of Energy, World Vision Vietnam and Renewable Energy Research Center – Hanoi University of Science and Technology (RERC)  signed the project implementation agreement for Project number 4-V-055 – Integrated Sustainable Clean Energy Solutions for Vietnam, co-funded by EEP-Mekong and World Vision Australia.

In the context when the domestic gas supply is rapidly declined, the new fields have high development costs and the negotiation process of gas prices often lasts, while the demand for gas is increasing etc. It is requires Vietnam Oil and Gas Group to have synchronous solutions to ensure a long-term stable gas supply for the economy and contribute to meeting the goal on energy security of the country.
