In order to meet the electricity demand in the dry season in the second quarter of 2020, the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) has directed its member units to enhance the management, operation and rational mobilization of power sources.

According to the forecast by the state-owned Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) Group, power output in 2020 is expected to reach more than 261.45 billion kWh, increasing 9.1 percent compared to 2019 in adherence with the year’s socioeconomic growth plan.

In the case that the thermal power projects in southern region continue to delay, it is possible to consider hiring the floating power stations with a capacity range from 30 to 620 MW, power purchase agreement from 3 to 10 years for ensuring power supply to the South.

Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam (ERAV) Director Dang Huy Cuong said that the south would not lack power in the dry season this year. In particular, the risk of power shortages in the southern provinces will be avoided thanks to putting the Pleiku-My Phuoc-Cau Bong 500 kV power transmission line into operation.

The Central Highlands has suffered severe droughts, while the south has experienced high temperatures since the beginning of the year. Therefore, the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) is trying to implement a range of measures to ensure electricity supply during dry season.

According to the informaton fom The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), in second half of the year, EVN will strive to energize and start many power grid projects as expected schedule.
