According to the National Steering Committee on Power Development, currently, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has a lot of power grid projects to be behind schedule due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Vietnam Coal - Minerals Industry Group (Vinacomin) informed that, in February 2021, with drastic direction in urgently implementing measures to prevent epidemics Covid-19 pandemic and actively promoting production from the first days and the first months, all Vinacomin activities are stably sustainable with basically ensuring the planned production targets.

On April 1, 2020, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) reported to the Prime Minister on the proposal to reduce electricity tariffs for many customers to remove difficulties in their production and business under the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a strong influence on the economy and society and greatly affected the project progress of renewable energy investors in Vietnam, including Super Energy. Therefore, the extension of the time to apply the FIT rates for wind power projects (until the end of June 2022) is to increase the "resistance" for businesses to firmly overcome the epidemic and complete their projects as soon as possible. 

The Ministry of Finance recently reported that although revenues from domestic, import and export activities have fallen short of estimated levels, budget revenue from crude oil in the first eight months recorded positive results. At VND25.7 trillion it equaled 111 percent of the estimate, and up 0.9 percent over the same period last year.

The Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) informed that its financial targets in the first quarter of 2020 could not reach as planned because of “double impact” from Covid-19 pandemic and low oil prices.

The draft Power Planning Development VIII (PDP VIII) contains fundamental changes in the power plants to meet the Net-zero commitment. On the basis of the power plants expected to be approved in PDP VIII to supply electricity for the socio-economic development in the coming period. At present Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) is implementing scenarios for developing power plants and projects releasing power capacity under the investment promotion policies.

The 3,200 MW Bac Lieu LNG Power Project is the largest project with 100% foreign direct investment in the Mekong Delta region. The Environmental Impact Assessment of the project has been approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment on Sept.01, 2021.

In October 2020, NIRAS was awarded a multi-million US dollar contract to conduct an international standard Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the 3.5GW La Gan offshore wind farm in Binh Thuan Province of Vietnam. The La Gan project is being jointly developed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), Asiapetro and Novasia, and is expected to be one of the first large-scale offshore wind farms in Vietnam.
