The Prime Minister has just approved the project on overall arrangement and restructure of enterprises under Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) in 2017 – 2020 period. 

Vietnam needs about US$128.3 billion of investment capital to develop its electricity industry in 2021-2030, according to draft electricity planning released by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT).

On the occasion of the 42nd Session of the Vietnam-Laos Joint Committee on bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Laos held in Hanoi in the first days of January 2020, Mr. Tran Tuan Anh, Minister of Industry and Trade received and worked with Mr. Khammany Inthirath, Lao Minister of Energy and Mines and then the Ministers witnessed the signing ceremony of the power purchase agreements (PPAs) between Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and Lao Phongsubthavy Group, and between EVN and Chaleun Sekong Energy Co., Ltd.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) is organizing a public consultation on the draft Decree stipulating the mechanism for developing power projects using domestic natural gas, imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) and some main contents, applicable in electricity purchase contracts. Below is the main content of this draft.

On February 17 and 18, 2023, Mr. Rémy Rioux - General Director of the French Development Agency (AFD), President of the International Development Finance Club (IDFC), and President of the Summit General Finance (FICS) visited and worked in Vietnam and Electricity of Vietnam (EVN). The visit is for preparing the Summit Conference on the New Summit Global Financial Agreement to be held in June 2023 in Paris.

Cooperation relationship between Power Machines (Russian Federation) and Vietnam began more than a half century ago with the delivery of three generators for Thac Ba hydraulic power plant, which was the country's most powerful one for a long time. Then came the turn of Uong Bi and Pha Lai thermal power plants, as well as Tri An and Hoa Binh hydraulic power plants.

According to a report of World Bank (WB),  the electricity approach index of Vietnam has increased 22 ranks compared with that in 2014.

The report updating the production and business activities of EVN informed that in April 2024 the electricity demand very high grew due to the economic recovery continuously recuperated, at the same time, head wave intensive occurred in all 3 regions, EVN still maintained to ensure the safe and continuous electricity supply for socio-economic development and the daily needs of the people, especially during the holiday period April 30 - May 1.

On November 30, 2023, the Committee for Management of State Capital at Enterprises issued Decision No. 695/QD-UBQLV appointing Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, EVN HANOI Chairman for the General Director of EVN (from December 1, 2023).

In order to speed up the procedures for deploying investment in developing power projects (power plants and grids) for electricity importation from Laos to Vietnam, recently Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) directed a mission of EVN National Power Transmission (EVN NPT) headed by Mr. Nguyen Tuan Tung, NPT chairman to have working meeting with a number of the investors of power projects in Laos.

Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang has signed Decision to appoint Mr. Dang Hoang An, Deputy General Director to the General Director position of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), replacing Mr. Pham Le Thanh who retires from  July 01st, 2015.
