Vietnam has signed contracts to import electricity from Laos

 - On the occasion of the 42nd Session of the Vietnam-Laos Joint Committee on bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Laos held in Hanoi in the first days of January 2020, Mr. Tran Tuan Anh, Minister of Industry and Trade received and worked with Mr. Khammany Inthirath, Lao Minister of Energy and Mines and then the Ministers witnessed the signing ceremony of the power purchase agreements (PPAs) between Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and Lao Phongsubthavy Group, and between EVN and Chaleun Sekong Energy Co., Ltd.

Minister Tran Tuan Anh assessed the great importance of the event in implementing the policy of the Poliburo and intergovernmental Committee of the two countries on the Vietnam – Lao Energy Cooperation.

Lao Minister Khammany Inthirath informed that there 8 PPAs were signed recent time, and 5 PPAs were additionally signed in the beginning of 2020 (see below in detail). At the present, Laos is carrying out feasibility study reports for the power projects including North – South transmission line for commercial electricity exchange between the regional countries.

At the end of the meeting, the Ministers witnessed the PPA signing ceremony between EVN and Chaleun Sekong for 5 projects as:

The PPAs for hydropower projects Nam Kong 2 (66 MW), Nam Kong 3 (54 MW), Emoun (129 MW), and Nam San 3A (69 MW), Nam San 3B (45 MW) belonged to Nam Mo Hydropower     Plant Cluster.
