The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) has just issued Decision No. 3110/QD-BCT to approve the Plan for Power supply and operation of the national electricity system in 2024.

On December 12, in Ninh Thuan province, the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) held a ceremony of starting out the power supply system for constructing Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). The Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai – Head of the State Steering Committee of Ninh Thuan NPP attended  the ceremony and commanded to start out the project.

On November 2, 2016 in Hanoi, the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (VN) in collaboration with the PetroVietnam Power Corporation (PV Power) held a cerymony to sign the principle contract to supply imported coal for the thermal power plants (PV Power TPP) invested by PVN.

Power outages are currently not an issue for foreign investors, reported the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The low water level in hydroelectricity reservoirs in the Central Highlands and central regions and the temporary suspension of gas supply to thermal power plants could affect electricity supply to the south, according to the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN).

The electricity of Vietnam (EVN) forecasted that in the next June and July, the North will enter the peak hot weather and the load of the national power system will increase higher than planned. With the hydrological situation and the slow progress of new power projects, the North would likely lack thousands of MW of electricity in this hot season.

In order to meet the electricity demand in the dry season in the second quarter of 2020, the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) has directed its member units to enhance the management, operation and rational mobilization of power sources.

According to the forecast by the state-owned Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) Group, power output in 2020 is expected to reach more than 261.45 billion kWh, increasing 9.1 percent compared to 2019 in adherence with the year’s socioeconomic growth plan.

In order to ensure the highest coal supply for thermal power plants (TPPs) with a maximal generation at the current hot season, the leadership of Vinacomin has directed the subsidiaries to effort coal supply for TPPs at highest level.

On 12/12/2018, the first long-term coal contract for power projects between Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Holding Joint Stock Corporation (Vinacomin) and Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) was signed. On the occasion, Mr. Trinh Dinh Dung, Vice Prime Minister said: “this event confirmed the message "no coal shortage for electricity generation, no electricity shortage for economic development".

Government Office informed, the Prime Minister had the directions on ensuring coal supply for power generation.

According to information from Central Power Corporation (EVN CPC), the 22kV submarine cable for the project of power supplying Cham Island (Hoi An city, Quang Nam province) from the National electricity network, manufactured in Norway has been completed and shipped to Da Nang city.

The electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) exchanged the situation of coal supply in 2022, and the plans for the coal supply for power generation in 2023.

Considering proposals of the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) on supplementing the electricity system operation plan in 2023 and according to the proposal of the Electricity Regulatory Authority, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has just approved the "plan for electricity supply and operation of the national power system in 2023”. On December 4, 2021 in Hanoi held a meeting between the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) on the situation of coal supply for power production in 2021 and preparing the plan to supply coal for EVN's thermal power plants in 2022.
