According to the project “The Energy Development Planning in Vietnam to 2025 with a vision up to 2035”, the primary energy demand has a number of changes: The energy development scenario (Proposed Scenario - PS) in planning period based on the GDP growth scenario in 2016 – 2035 at an average level of 7%/year in combining with energy saving rates (ESR) compared to business- as-usual (BAU) energy development scenario as 4.1% in 2020, 5.9% in 2025, 8.1% in 2030 and 10.0% in 2035, and a 15% CO2 reduction target by 2030.

As the consumption of coal on the market is still stagnant, Vietnam National Coal-Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin) has directed to review production situation of a number of its member units with coal products that the market does not need to reduce the output. During the reduction of production, the units will implement removing soil or digging pits to be ready to exploit coal in more favorable conditions of consumption.  

In the second quarter, the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin) plans to balance production and sale of coal amount in the regions to reduce inventory level, strive to maximally produce minerals, chemicals, electricity ... for stabilizing jobs and meeting coal demand of the customers.

In the first quarter of this year, the domestic coal production sector ensured adequate employment and stable income for workers while sales were quite good.

The National Coal - Minerals Industries Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin) informed, the Corporation has basically completed the first quarter production and business plan, accounting approximately 25% of 2016 year plan.

The Department of Petroleum and Coal - Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) inspected a number of coal-producing and selling units and worked with the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) on coal production, supply for the coal-fired thermal power plants (TPPs).

At Mao Khe Coal Company, General Director of Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) Dang Thanh Hai chaired the Conference on promoting coal production to meet the market demand.

According to information from Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin), in 2019 the coal demand for the thermal power plants reaches the highest level ever. From the beginning of the year so far, Vinacomin provides customers with an average of over 100,000 tons per day including holidays and Tet days.

At the meeting for online briefing coal production in March of 2017, Mr. Dang Thanh Hai, General Director  steered the units of Vinacomin to take advantage of favorable weather in March to speed up coal production and sale, guarantee coal amount, quality and sorts to meet demand of customers;and decrease coal inventory level.

"In March 2016, Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industry Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin) will step up sale of products, specially focus to well prepare coal with a high production for power sector” Vinacomin General director Dang Thanh Hai said.

In the second quarter of 2022, the units of the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) promote a labor emulation movement "High working day - High output - High income", focus on coal production to meet maximum demand for electricity generation.

Strong Chinese policies to reduce coal dependency seen curbing growth, but Asian demand remains buoyant. Tougher Chinese policies aimed at reducing dependency on coal will help restrain global coal demand growth over the next five years, the International Energy Agency (IEA) says in its annual released today.

Vietnam is a developing country, which does not cause climate change, but sustains a lot of effects from climate change. The Government of Vietnam considers to deal with the climate change as an issue with the vital meaning, that’s why Vietnam always expresses the highest efforts to go together with the international community to deal with global climate change.

On August 1, 2019, in Hanoi, the International Conference on “Pathways to Low Carbon Development for Vietnam to reach the National Determined Contributions (NDC)” a study report of World Bank in collaboration with the Department of Energy Conservation and Sustainable Development, Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) took place.
