The situation to reduce the renewable energy sources is ‘compulsory’ and going on

 - According to the National Load Dispatch Center (A0), the reduction of renewable energy sources in recent times and at present is compulsory for the safe and stable operation of the power system.

As well known, electricity is a special commodity, it always is ensured in the principle of balance between electricity supply and demand. If this principle is not ensured, the national power system should face dangerous fault causing a widespread blackout, or even the whole system corruption.

In Vietnam, the total electricity demand of the economy in the 2020 year (increased by 2.45 % over 2019) and the first months of 2021 (increased by 4.0% over the same period of 2020) reduced seriously due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Besides, electricity demands are very differential between hours of the day (by 6,000 – 8,000 MW between noon and evening) and between working days and weekends (4,000 – 6,000 MW).

According to A0, at present, the capacity of renewable energy projects reaches 23.5% of the total capacity of the national power system), which contributes to ensuring supply of the system, but the renewable energy projects depend very much on natural conditions (sunlight and wind speed), so, ensuring supply capacities still much depends on traditional power plants, while the flexible capacity of hydropower plants occupies only 20% of the total system capacity.
