Information from the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) said: On the morning of June 28, in Hanoi, under the witness of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and General Secretary, Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith, EVN General Director Tran Dinh Nhan attended the ceremony to exchange power purchase agreement (PPA) between EVN and hydropower investors in Laos.

The Prime Minister has just issued a document to agree with the proposal of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) in principle on the ceiling price (maximum price) as 6.95 USCent/kWh for importing wind power from Laos. The average electricity price for the whole life of the project at the time of negotiation agreed between the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and investor must be not exceed this ceiling price.

On April 4, 2018 in Hanoi, was held a talk between the Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh and Minister of Energy and Mines of Laos Khammany Inthirath on continuously implementing measures to strengthen cooperation in the energy and minerals between the two countries, especially to unify plan for carrying out the cooperation documents in energy sector signed in the 40th session of the Inter-governmental Committee on bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

At the conference on development cooperation between the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) of Vietnam and Ministry of Energy and Mines (MOEM), and Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) of Laos in 2017, the sides discussed the projects of bonded warehouse and oil pipeline from Hon La harbor (Quang Binh, Vietnam) to Kham Muon (Laos) and My ly – Nam Mo I Hydropower plant. Especially, the two sides have been unanimous to study the 500 kV grid project for Vietnam to import electricity from Laos.

A project to install two 500/200kV-450MVA transformers as well as 500kV power distribution devices at Pleiku 2 transformer station in Ia Kenh commune, in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai’s Pleiku city, were put into operation on June 10.

According information of Vietnam News Agency, on April 27, at the headquarter of Lao Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI), Representative of the Government of Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR) and Mr. Pham Ngoc Long - Director of the Long Van Limited Company of Vietnam signed a contract for the search, exploration and exploitation of coal in Sam Nuea district, Houaphanh province.
