Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has requested the Ministry of Industry and Trade to accelerate the process of issuing electricity licenses for wind and solar power projects that have been completed but have not yet been put into operation.

After successfully implementing a 200 million USD credit package signed in June 2019, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) and Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam (Vietcombank) have just signed a contract for financing 300 million USD to support renewable energy (RE) projects in Vietnam.

The People's Committee of Hanoi has just issued the Plan No. 50/KH-UBND dated March 1, 2021, on developing renewable energy in the city to 2021 with a goal to increase 15 MWp of the rooftop solar power projects (average capacity of 0.5 MWp per a district) and develop 75 MW of waste –to - energy projects.

Gia Lai is one of the provinces with a large potential to develop renewable energy, has an average sunshine hour number of 1,900-2,200 hours per year, total solar radiation of 335-380 kcal/cm2 or daily average solar radiation about 4.6-5.2 kWh/m2. The total potential for developing solar power projects (SPPs) in Gia Lai is 7500 MW, among which more than 5000 MW for ground projects and 2500 MW for floating projects.

Despite many advantages and potential in renewable energy, Vietnam has not invested adequately in this sector.
