Situation of renewable energy development in Gia Lai province

 - Gia Lai is one of the provinces with a large potential to develop renewable energy, has an average sunshine hour number of 1,900-2,200 hours per year, total solar radiation of 335-380 kcal/cm2 or daily average solar radiation about 4.6-5.2 kWh/m2. The total potential for developing solar power projects (SPPs) in Gia Lai is 7500 MW, among which more than 5000 MW for ground projects and 2500 MW for floating projects.

At present, Gia Lai has 3 SPPs with a total capacity of 138 MWp that Ministry of Industry and Trade has supplemented to the provincial power development planning (PPDP), and 10 other SPPs with a total capacity of 632 MWp were and are submitted to the competent levels for approving.

Regarding wind power potential, Gia Lai has 4 areas with a very favorable condition to develop wind power projects (WPPs) with a total capacity of 11,950 MW, of which about 3800 MW in East area, 1300 MW in Southeast area, 6.350 MW in West area and 500 MW in Pleiku city.  At present, Gia Lai PPC has submitted 56 WPPs with a total capacity of 8053 MW for supplementing to the National Power Development Planning.

For the small hydropower development, today in Gia Lai, there are 48 small hydropower projects (SHPs) with a total capacity in operation, 02 projects are developing  and 25 projects with a total capacity of 204.6 MW are proposed by the investors for survey and investment.

Today in Gia Lai there 02 biomass (sugar bagasse) power projects with a total capacity 144.6 MW are in operation.
