Prime Minister receives General Director of Russian Federation State Atomic Energy Corporation

 - On January 13, 2025, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received General Director of the Russian Federation State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) Alexey Likhachev, who is visiting and working in Vietnam.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh was very pleased to meet the General Director of Rosatom again. He affirmed that Vietnam always remembers the support and assistance that the Russian people gave Vietnam in the past struggle for national liberation and reunification, and in the present-day construction and development of the country và and always attaches importance to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the Russian Federation. In particular, cooperation in energy for peaceful purposes and space research is a potential field.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the cooperation and support of the Russian Federation for Vietnam in training scientists and experts in the field of atomic energy; designing and operating the Da Lat Nuclear Reactor; developing the Vietnam-Russia Tropical Center; providing radioactive pharmaceuticals for cancer diagnosis and treatment, etc.

The Prime Minister said: that Vietnam is preparing to enter a new era of striving for prosperity, civilization, and wealth for the nation. In the coming time, Vietnam must accelerate its development to become a developing country with modern industry and high average income by 2030 and a developed country with high income by 2045. In particular, Vietnam advocates restarting the nuclear power project to ensure energy security, serve the country's development and fulfill the commitment to zero net emissions by 2050.

The Prime Minister hopes that Russia and Rosatom will continue to cooperate and support Vietnam not only in developing nuclear power but also in developing nuclear science and technology for peace and socio-economic development. This includes supporting Vietnam in training human resources; transferring technology; helping Vietnam exploit and make the most of its capabilities in this field; transferring management science, and improving management capacity... so that Vietnam can develop the nuclear technology industry in the future.

Therefore, the Prime Minister assigned tasks with "clear people, clear work, clear responsibilities, clear time, clear products" to ministries, branches, and agencies to closely coordinate with the Russian side to promptly implement specific cooperation tasks, in the spirit of "harmonized benefits, shared risks".

Pleased to meet Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for the third time in the past 6 months, Rosatom General Director Alexey Likhachev said: As a leading nuclear energy corporation with many years of cooperation with Vietnam, Rosatom, with its good foundation and long-term cooperation experience, wishes to continue promoting cooperation with Vietnam, realizing high-level agreements between the two countries.

Rosatom General Director Alexey Likhachev said: Rosatom is ready to cooperate and help Vietnam build nuclear power plants; build new, modern nuclear centers; transfer technology; localize nuclear products for Vietnam; develop nuclear science and industry... with a vision of hundreds of years, using nuclear energy for economic and social development purposes as mentioned by the Prime Minister./.
