Hungary helps Vietnam train 1,000 experts in nuclear power plant operation

 - On March 19, 2025, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính received Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Szijjártó Péter, who was on an official visit to Vietnam from March 18 to 19, 2025.

With 50 years of experience operating nuclear power plants using Russian Federation technology, Hungary is ready to cooperate and assist in training 1,000 nuclear power plant operation experts for Vietnam, considering this a strategic area of cooperation between the two countries.

Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính welcomed Minister Szijjártó Péter’s visit, affirming that Vietnam always values its relationship with Hungary, its first Comprehensive Partner in Central and Eastern Europe.

The Prime Minister expressed his deep impression of his official visit to Hungary in January 2024. He again extended his gratitude to Hungarian leaders for their warm and thoughtful reception of him, his spouse, and the delegation. He proposed that both sides maintain the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially at the high level.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính conveyed an invitation to Hungarian Prime Minister Orban Viktor to pay an official visit to Vietnam soon.

Minister Szijjártó Péter expressed his delight at visiting Vietnam on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1950-2025).

The Minister expressed his admiration for Vietnam’s economic and social development achievements. In the coming time, Hungary aims to further strengthen its traditional friendship and cooperation across various fields with Vietnam, considering Vietnam its most important partner in Southeast Asia.

The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to Hungary—a loyal and steadfast friend—for its support and assistance to Vietnam over the past 75 years. He was pleased that despite the negative impacts of complex global and regional developments, trade and investment between the two countries have continued to grow positively.

He welcomed the close coordination between the two sides in preparing for the 10th session of the Vietnam-Hungary Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation in Hanoi in 2025, after a hiatus since 2019, aiming to boost bilateral trade and investment.

The Prime Minister also discussed with Minister Szijjártó Péter several measures to promote cooperation in education, mechanical engineering, electronics, tourism, labor, and railway connectivity between Southeast Asia and Central-Eastern Europe.

He particularly emphasized Vietnam's urgent need for high-quality human resource training in nuclear power plant operation—an area of Hungary’s expertise—and expressed hope for Hungary’s support in this field.

Both sides agreed to review the legal framework for bilateral cooperation, accelerate negotiations for an agreement on citizen repatriation, and sign a labor cooperation agreement soon.

Minister Szijjártó Péter affirmed that, with 50 years of experience in operating nuclear power plants using Russian Federation technology, Hungary is ready to cooperate and assist in training 1,000 nuclear power plant operation experts for Vietnam, considering this a strategic area of cooperation between the two countries./.
