On January 4, 2022, Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) held an online meeting on production and business management in January 2022.

On December 4, 2021 in Hanoi held a meeting between the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) on the situation of coal supply for power production in 2021 and preparing the plan to supply coal for EVN's thermal power plants in 2022.

According to information from Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin), in 2019 the coal demand for the thermal power plants reaches the highest level ever. From the beginning of the year so far, Vinacomin provides customers with an average of over 100,000 tons per day including holidays and Tet days.

Recently, the Government Office informed the Conclusion of Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung at the meeting on coal supply for the power generation and other consumers.

According to the information from Vietnam National Coal – Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited (Vinacomin), after surveying worldwide experience for circulating fluidized bet (CFB) boiler technology, a technology for bad coal (low calorific value and high sulfur content) combustion to achieve lower emission of pollutants, Vinacomin has selected this technology for developing its 6 bet coal fired thermal power plants (TPP) as Na Duong (110 MW), Cao Ngan (115 MW), Son Dong (220 MW), Cam Pha (680 MW), Mao Khe (440 MW) and Nong Son (30 MW).

On November 2, 2016 in Hanoi, the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (VN) in collaboration with the PetroVietnam Power Corporation (PV Power) held a cerymony to sign the principle contract to supply imported coal for the thermal power plants (PV Power TPP) invested by PVN.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has issued instructions on the projects at the An Khanh–Bac Giang Thermal Power Plant in the northern province of Bac Giang and Duc Giang–Lao Cai Thermal Power Plant in the northern province of Lao Cai.

Quang Ninh Province's historic rainstorm severely disrupted the area's coal supplies, and could temporarily shut down several thermal power plants.

The Prime Minister has issued a decision on a number of solutions to handle and use ash, slag from thermal power plants as raw material for building materials production.
