TKV and EVN record positive results in supplying coal to power plants

 - At a recent working session between the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Holding Corporation (Vinacomin) and the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), the two sides acknowledged positive cooperation results in supplying coal to thermal power plants in 2024.

In the first 7 months of 2024, EVN has ensured sufficient electricity supply for economic and social development. The operation of the power system closely follows the plan approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade. In particular, coal-fired thermal power sources have been highly mobilized. Hydropower sources are mobilized according to the hydrological situation, water in reservoirs and the water-saving target for the peak months of the dry season in 2024.

EVN's report shows that the total electricity production and import of the entire system in the first 7 months of this year reached 180.67 billion kWh, an increase of 11.63% over the same period in 2023 (161.84 billion kWh). The total coal-fired thermal power output of the entire system accumulated to July 31, 2024 was 96.63 billion kWh. For EVN's anthracite coal-fired thermal power plants, the total electricity output was 31.454 billion kWh.

In the first 7 months of the year, the total amount of coal that Vinacomin and Dong Bac Corporation provided to EVN's thermal power plants was 15.22 million tons. Of which, TKV provided 10.33 million tons, ensuring the demand for electricity production n and the actual inventory of thermal power plants.

At the meeting, EVN General Director Nguyen Anh Tuan sincerely thanked Vinacomin and Dong Bac Corporation for ensuring coal supply for electricity production in the past time. At the same time, during the peak dry season of 2024, Vinacomin also stably operated its coal-fired thermal power plants, meeting the requirements of the national power system.

According to the national power system operation method, it is expected that in the last months of 2024 (from August to December), the total electricity output of domestic coal-fired thermal power plants will be 30.338 billion kWh. Of which, the output of thermal power plants of EVN and power generation corporations (EVNGENCO) in the last 5 months of the year is expected to be 11.840 billion kWh.

EVN has directed its affiliated units to coordinate closely, regularly update the operating situation promptly notify TKV and Dong Bac Corporation about coal demand and reception plans, and make flexible and timely adjustments by the actual mobilization of the power system in real-time.

The peak of the dry season has passed and the rainy season is underway. However, the operation of coal-fired thermal power plants still plays an important role in ensuring electricity supply. Therefore, EVN requests TKV to update and adjust the coal supply plan (if necessary), ensuring readiness for all situations; and not to interrupt the coal supply process to ensure electricity supply security.

Vinacomin General Director Dang Thanh Hai shared the difficulties of EVN in the past time. He affirmed that Vinacomin is always ready to accompany and cooperate closely with EVN.

The two sides also agreed on several working and cooperation contents in the coming time. In particular, regarding the coal demand in 2025, Vinacomin requested EVN and thermal power plants to promptly balance and calculate, notify Vinacomin so that the two sides can prepare for the planning of production, business, and signing of coal purchase and sale contracts for the coming year.

Vinacomin believes that, from the existing good cooperation foundation, the two sides will continue to have more sustainable steps forward, together striving to complete the task of ensuring energy for the country./.
