The Vietnam Electricity National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) and the US Embassy in Vietnam held a seminar in late May to discuss opportunities in Vietnam’s power transmission development.

On June 10, in Hanoi, authorized by the Leaders of Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), Mr. Tran Viet Hoa, Director of Science and Technology Department and Mr. Kim Dong Soo, Standing Vice Chairman of Korean Electrical Association (KEA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on technical standards and norms in power system management.

On February 18, 2019, in Hanoi, at the working meeting with Mr. Trinh Dinh Dung, Vice Prime Minister of Vietnamese government, Mr. Khammany Inthirath, Minister of Energy and Mining of Laos informed that he discussed with MOIT, EVN and PVN about cooperation on developing hydropower projects in Laos, power interconnection and power purchase between the two countries.

Vietnamese and Japanese businesses presented air pollution control technologies and technological applications for waste and waste water management at a workshop in Hanoi on January 10.

In the framework of the official visit of the Russian Federation, on September 6, at the Botraroov Rutrei Edifice, Sochi city, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Vladimir Putin witnessed a ceremony for signing many cooperation documents between the two countries.

On April 4, 2018 in Hanoi, was held a talk between the Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh and Minister of Energy and Mines of Laos Khammany Inthirath on continuously implementing measures to strengthen cooperation in the energy and minerals between the two countries, especially to unify plan for carrying out the cooperation documents in energy sector signed in the 40th session of the Inter-governmental Committee on bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

At the meeting with Mr. Do Thang Hai, Vice Minister of Industry and Trade, Mr. Ajay Shah, Vice President of Royal Dutch Shell expressed the desire to strengthen cooperation with Vietnamese enterprises in oil and gas field and presented several potential opportunities for cooperation with PetroVietnam.

At the Sixth International Conference on production and consumption of liquid natural gas (LNG) in Tokyo (Japan), the Minister of Industry and Trade of Vietnam Tran Tuan Anh put forward “5 opportunities” and “5 challenges” in the development of LNG industry in Vietnam to call for foreign and domestic enterprises to cooperate for investing in LNG in Vietnam.

At the conference on development cooperation between the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) of Vietnam and Ministry of Energy and Mines (MOEM), and Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) of Laos in 2017, the sides discussed the projects of bonded warehouse and oil pipeline from Hon La harbor (Quang Binh, Vietnam) to Kham Muon (Laos) and My ly – Nam Mo I Hydropower plant. Especially, the two sides have been unanimous to study the 500 kV grid project for Vietnam to import electricity from Laos.

Information from the General Department of Customs shows that in the first 8 months of 2017, Vietnam exports coal to almost all markets increasingly in comparison with that in the same time of the last year. It is particularly noticeable that coal export to Laos market increased for 16 times by amount (50,455 tons) and 15 times by value (4.32 million US$).
