According to the updated report of 'non-hydro' renewable energy sources of Vietnam Energy Magazine - VER (August 2020), the total onshore wind power technical potential of Vietnam is about 217 GW, while the total offshore wind power technical potential is about 160 GW.

The Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade (MOIT DM) Dang Hoang An just had a meeting with Mr. Erling Rimestad – The State Secretary for the Norwegian Kingdom Foreign Affairs Ministry. On this occasion, Mr. Erling Rimestad introduced to the MOIT of Vietnam the Norwegian leading clean energy groups including Mainstream, Scatec, Norsk Solar, and Equinor exchanged the Norwegian prospects of investment sources in renewable energy in Vietnam and looked forward to learning about the regulations of Vietnam for the offshore wind power development.

At a meeting with Mr. Hoang Quoc Vuong - Chairman of the Member Council of the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN), on April 27, in Hanoi, Mr. Bernerd Da Santos – US AES Standing Vice Chairman and CEO informed that the AES group would like to share experiences and cooperate with PVN in developing the renewable energy projects, especially the offshore wind power projects.

On November 18 in Hanoi, Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on building a strategic partnership in 2021 – 2024 years to promote clean and sustainable energy development in Vietnam, as well as support PVN to achieve the green energy transition goal. German GICON group for Technology Consultant and Solution and Vietnam Petroleum Institute (VPI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation for researching pilot project on producing hydrogen and from the offshore wind power projects and electricity from the renewable energy projects in Vietnamese condition.

The Office of Binh Dinh Provincial People’s Committee (PPC) informed that Mr. Nguyen Phi Long Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh PPC had a working meeting with the mission of German Chamber of Industry and Trade headed by Mr. Marko Walde.

In Hanoi, Deputy General Director of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) Nguyen Tai Anh just had a working meeting with the Mitsui Company (Japan) led by the Deputy General Director of Block 1 (Asia), Sales Department for infrastructure projects, a Member of Hai Long Project Management Board - Mr. Ryo Zushiden.

At the meeting with leaders of Vietnam - Russia Joint Venture (Vietsovpetro), PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC), Vietnam Oil and Gas Construction Corporation (PETROCONs) on preparation to participate in the offshore renewable energy projects, Mr. Hoang Quoc Vuong – Chairman of the Member Council of PetroVietnam (PVN) proposed the study to establish a complex for developing the renewable energy value chain, strengthening cooperation ability, promoting each other's capacity and meeting the requirements of domestic and international investors in this field.

The offshore wind power project has not been developed in Vietnam due to its technical and technological complexity, large amount of investment that leads to realizing a planned capacity of up to 7,000 MW by 2030 is a big challenge... Information was given at the seminar: "Experience in offshore wind power development" held by the Department of Electricity and Renewable Energy (Ministry of Industry and Trade - MOIT) on July 6 in Hanoi.

On March 2, 2022, in Hanoi, Mr. Hoang Quoc Vuong, the Chairman of the Member Council of Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) and Mr. Mark Green - Chairman of the Asia-Europe region of AES Corporation (USA) discussed cooperation in developing offshore wind power and hydrogen projects in Vietnam.

Recently, in Hanoi, Mr. Tran Dinh Nhan - General Director of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) worked with the Mission of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners - CIP from Denmark headed by Mr. Robert Helms – the Member and Director of the New Market Fund offshore wind power (under CIP). At the meeting, the Danish partners proposed that EVN cooperate in developing a number of large offshore wind power projects and the power transmission grid.

The Power Purchase Contract (PPC) for Huong Linh 2 Wind Power Project (WPP) has been signed between Tan Hoan Cau Stock Company and Electricity Power Trading Company (Electricity of Vietnam - EVN).
