GCooperation in researching to produce hydrogen from Vietnam offshore wind power projects

 - German GICON group for Technology Consultant and Solution and Vietnam Petroleum Institute (VPI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation for researching pilot project on producing hydrogen and from the offshore wind power projects and electricity from the renewable energy projects in Vietnamese condition.

According to the reporter of Vietnam News Agency in Germany, on March 29, speaking at the online ceremony for signing MOU between GICON and VPI, Mr. Nguyen Minh Vu, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany, considered this event as Vietnam – Germany cooperation at all levels to continuously speed up under many different forms in spite of the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the ambassador, for more than 10 years, cooperation on energy in general and new and renewable energy in particular has continued to be one of the priority areas between Vietnam and Germany. Germany is currently one of the largest donors in the energy sector to Vietnam and has many companies involved in the energy transition in Vietnam, especially in solar, wind and biomass energy, as well as smart power grid development.

For his part, the President of the GICON Group, Prof. Dr. Jochen Großmann expressed his happiness at the contribution of GICON to the promotion of the traditional good relations for decades between Germany and Vietnam. He believed that, with their existing experience, the two sides will make practical contributions to creating new and efficient energy sources as well as contributing to environmental improvement and climate change combat.

Mr. Jochen also expressed his wish that the two sides will quickly set up a working group to step by step concretize the signed MOU to achieve good results during cooperation process. At the signing ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Anh Duc  -VPI Director emphasized the abundant potential of the biomass, solar and wind energy resources and hoped that the MOU signing is a beginning for the deep, efficient cooperation between VPI and GICON.

The contents of MOU show that, the sides will share their missions, tasks, responsibilities and desires to cooperate in the fields of mutual interest to improve efficiency in development efforts. The sides together define fields, forms for potential cooperation including technical, technological selection and development.  Specifically, it is to apply new technology for producing hydrogen and electricity from the renewable projects having developed on a pilot / demonstration / commercial scale and then tested under the conditions in Vietnam.

The first proposal for the cooperation would be using offshore wind power projects to produce hydrogen by seawater electrolysis.

In addition, the sides will also cooperate in training, exchanging data / information, using services, or hiring experts from the parties within the framework of the researching  programs and consulting services projects on the energy management, hydrogen technology, electricity generation from renewable sources, biogas, as well as researching  biodiversity and environmental toxicology.

ICON Group consists of 11 member companies with a total number of employees as about 500, a main headquarter in Dresden and representatives in the large cities of Germany and over the world. The function of GICON is to provide services, consultative solutions; assess researching projects; develop modern technologies; renovate and create the environmental, ecological, energy chemical, and environmental information technologies.
