As the first hydropower plant in Northern Vietnam, Thac Ba Hydropower Plant has been in operation for more than 50 years.
As part of this comprehensive rehabilitation project, all core components - including oil - free Kaplan runners, guide vanes, rotor poles, governors, and other key equipment - have been fully upgraded, breathing new life into the aging generating units.

This achievement marks a significant milestone for ANDRITZ and further strengthens the company’s reference portfolio in the rehabilitation of non-OEM Kaplan units with long operational histories. At the same time, it consolidates ANDRITZ’s leading position in the Vietnamese hydropower market as a preferred supplier of comprehensive “water-to-wire” technologies, as well as rehabilitation and modernization services.
The Thac Ba Hydropower Rehabilitation Project commenced in January 2023 and achieved full grid connection of all three units in January 2026. Over the past three years, the global project team led by ANDRITZ Hydro China, in close cooperation with the local ANDRITZ Vietnam team, has overcome numerous challenges through persistent efforts.
