In particular, throughout June, the power system successfully maintained a stable electricity supply for major national events, including the 2026–2027 high school entrance examinations, the 2026 national high school graduation examination, and university and vocational education entrance examinations.

Total electricity generation and imports across the national power system reached 32.6 billion kWh in June 2026, representing a 14.25% increase compared to the same month in 2025. Cumulatively, electricity generation and imports during the first half of the year amounted to 171.54 billion kWh, up 9.85% year-on-year.

During the heatwave from June 22 to 25, 2026, Vietnam's power system recorded new all-time highs in both electricity consumption and peak demand. Daily electricity generation reached a record 1,215.4 million kWh on June 25, while the national peak load climbed to 57,537 MW on June 24.

The generation mix during the first half of 2026 was as follows:

1. Hydropower: 36.10 billion kWh, accounting for 21.0% of total generation.

2. Coal-fired power: 93.44 billion kWh, accounting for 54.5%.

3. Gas-fired power: 13.71 billion kWh, accounting for 8.0%.

4. Renewable energy: 22.12 billion kWh, accounting for 12.9%, including 14.59 billion kWh from solar power and 6.63 billion kWh from wind power.

5. Imported electricity: 5.93 billion kWh, accounting for 3.5% of the total.

During the dry-season peak, coal-fired and gas-fired power plants were heavily dispatched to meet rising electricity demand. To enhance system capacity, the National System and Market Operator (NSMO) mobilized oil-fired generation at the O Mon Thermal Power Plant and switched several gas turbine units from natural gas to diesel (DO) fuel.

Electricity transmitted during the first half of 2026 was estimated at 138.2 billion kWh, up 10.83% year-on-year. Power flows were primarily from Central Vietnam to the North and the South, with peak transmission reaching 4,489 MW on the Central-North corridor and 5,998 MW on the Central-South corridor.

In customer services, EVN continued to expand its digital transformation by providing 100% end-to-end online electricity services integrated with the National Public Service Portal and national databases. All 12 Level-4 electricity services are now available online, while integration with the new public service platform is underway. EVN has also synchronized customer data with the National Population Database and the VNeID platform, launched a unified customer service application on June 15, 2026, and prepared for the implementation of revised national time-of-use electricity pricing periods.

In project development, EVN continued to accelerate its annual investment plan during the second quarter of 2026, with priority given to key power generation and transmission projects in accordance with the Group's development roadmap.

Regarding major power projects, Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power Plant reached 99.11% overall completion. Unit 1 has been synchronized with the national grid, while Unit 2 has completed boiler pressure testing and is undergoing steam blowing, with first firing scheduled for July 2026. For the Quang Trach 2 LNG Power Plant, the EPC contractor is carrying out site surveys and preparing the technical design. Construction of the Tri An Hydropower Expansion Project is progressing on schedule, with commercial operation targeted for 2027.

EVN is also advancing preparations for several hydropower expansion projects, including Tuyen Quang, Se San 3, Se San 4, Da Nhim Phase 2, Srepok 3, and Buon Kuop, aiming for construction during 2026–2027 and commercial operation by 2030. Meanwhile, thermal power companies continue upgrading flue gas treatment systems at coal-fired plants, as well as at O Mon 1 and Ba Ria thermal power plants.

In transmission development, EVN and its subsidiaries commenced construction of 89 grid projects and completed 94 transmission projects ranging from 110 kV to 500 kV during the first half of 2026.

Beyond its core business activities, EVN and its member companies allocated more than VND 27.2 billion to social welfare programs, including support for disadvantaged communities, disaster relief, education, rural and coastal lighting projects, and contributions to the 2026 Humanitarian Month campaign launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

Key priorities for the second half of 2026

In line with Government Resolutions No. 168/NQ-CP and No. 169/NQ-CP dated June 27, 2026, EVN will continue implementing measures to support the Government's goal of achieving double-digit economic growth while maintaining macroeconomic stability.

According to updated projections by the National System and Market Operator (NSMO), total electricity generation and imports are expected to reach 187.5 billion kWh in the second half of 2026, up 12.3% year-on-year, bringing the estimated full-year total to 358.6 billion kWh, an increase of 11.1% compared with 2025.

In northern Vietnam, prolonged heatwaves are forecast to continue during July and August, with peak demand expected to reach 30,550–31,550 MW, approximately 16.8% higher than the same period last year and 1,500–2,500 MW above the peaks recorded in the first half of 2026. Meanwhile, the flood season will begin in northern Vietnam in July before extending to the central and southern regions.

To ensure a reliable electricity supply under all operating conditions, EVN has instructed its subsidiaries to continue implementing comprehensive power supply measures for the remainder of 2026, prepare contingency plans for higher-than-expected electricity demand, maintain safe operations during the rainy and typhoon season, and proactively prepare for the 2027 dry season. Key priorities include:

1. Closely monitor weather and hydrological conditions to maximize the availability of generating units, ensure the safe operation of power facilities, and coordinate with the National System and Market Operator (NSMO) to optimize water resource management.

2. Ensure the effective operation of emission control systems (FGD, SCR, ESP, etc.), strictly comply with environmental regulations on emissions, wastewater and ash disposal, and promptly report any issues requiring regulatory support.

3. Work proactively with coal, oil and gas suppliers to secure sufficient fuel inventories for power generation while developing long-term plans to ensure a stable fuel supply.

4. Develop contingency plans and work closely with major electricity consumers to implement demand response and load-shifting measures during periods of extreme heat.

5. Strengthen coordination with NSMO in load forecasting, assessing the impact of distributed energy resources, particularly self-consumption rooftop solar systems, monitoring the expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, promoting energy efficiency and demand-side management, and preparing emergency load control measures, including the mobilization of customers' backup diesel generators when necessary.

6. Accelerate investment in and deployment of battery energy storage systems (BESS) on distribution networks to enhance power supply reliability from 2026 onward, particularly in northern Vietnam.

7. Coordinate closely with provincial and municipal authorities, government agencies and local communities to effectively implement electricity-saving programs and promote rooftop solar development in accordance with the Prime Minister's Directive No. 10/CT-TTg.

Regarding power generation investment, EVN will prioritize the timely implementation of key projects, including the commercial operation of Unit 2 of Quang Trach 1 Thermal Power Plant in 2026, accelerating investment preparation for the Quang Trach 3 LNG Power Project, continuing construction of the Tri An Hydropower Expansion Project and the Bac Ai Pumped Storage Hydropower Project, and upgrading flue gas treatment systems at thermal power plants.

Regarding transmission development, EVN aims to complete several key transmission projects, including the 500/220 kV Nho Quan–Phu Ly–Thuong Tin, 220 kV Nhon Trach 3–Long Thanh, and 220 kV Than Uyen–Lao Cai transmission lines in the third quarter of 2026, followed by the 220 kV Pac Ma–Muong Te, Phong Than–Than Uyen, and Dien Bien–Son La transmission lines in the fourth quarter. The Group will also ensure the timely completion of the 110 kV Phu Quoc–South Phu Quoc and Phu Quoc–North Phu Quoc transmission projects to support power supply for APEC.

To ease pressure on the power system during the dry season and prolonged heatwaves, particularly in northern Vietnam, EVN called on households and businesses to continue using electricity efficiently, especially by avoiding the simultaneous use of multiple high-power electrical appliances during peak hours. Efficient electricity use will help reduce the risk of power system disruptions while also lowering customers' electricity bills./.
