EVN and Vinachem Discuss Roadmap for Cooperation on Battery Energy Storage Systems

The agreement was reached during a working session co-chaired by EVN Chairman and CEO Nguyen Anh Tuan and Vinachem President and CEO Nguyen Huu Tu.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan said demand for energy storage systems is expected to increase significantly as baseload power projects require long development timelines while the share of renewable energy in Vietnam's power mix continues to grow. He noted that the deployment of BESS will improve the integration of renewable energy and support the safe and efficient operation of the power system.

Mr. Tuan added that EVN is currently studying investments in BESS projects in several northern localities. To ensure sustainable development, he emphasized the importance of gradually mastering BESS technologies, particularly system control, energy management, and operational technologies, to improve efficiency, enhance operational safety, and reduce investment costs.

He also noted that the two groups each possess distinct strengths and should leverage their respective advantages to develop concrete areas of cooperation. EVN will designate a dedicated focal point to work with Vinachem in identifying potential cooperation initiatives and establishing joint working groups with a clear implementation roadmap.

On behalf of Vinachem, President and CEO Nguyen Huu Tu said that following the initial discussions between the two sides, the Group had instructed its member companies to assess EVN's practical needs and review international experience in energy storage development. He highlighted PINACO, a Vinachem subsidiary with more than 50 years of experience in battery manufacturing, as an important foundation for the Group's efforts to gradually develop products serving the emerging energy sector.

According to Mr. Tu, the meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on potential areas of cooperation by leveraging their respective strengths, intending to jointly research and develop products capable of meeting the needs of Vietnam's power sector and contributing to the development of the domestic energy industry.

At the meeting, the two groups agreed to assign their technical teams to continue discussions, conduct further research, and develop a detailed cooperation roadmap aimed at maximizing each organization's capabilities in the research, development, and application of energy storage technologies./.
