GE Vernova turbines selected for Quynh Lap LNG power plant

 - The Quynh Lap LNG power plant in central Vietnam will use gas turbines and generators supplied by GE Vernova, according to a cooperation agreement recently signed with Petrovietnam Power Corporation (PV Power).

During a series of meetings in Hanoi, the two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in developing LNG-to-power projects and deploying advanced energy technologies in Vietnam.

The two sides also reviewed their cooperation in large-scale gas-fired power projects in Vietnam and agreed to further promote advanced technologies to enhance plant efficiency and support the country’s energy transition.

A key milestone in the partnership is the Nhon Trach 3 and 4 LNG power projects, developed by Petrovietnam Power Corporation and using 9HA.02 gas turbine technology from GE Vernova. With a total capacity of about 1.6 GW, the projects are the first in Vietnam to apply H-Class gas turbine technology and are among the key projects under Vietnam’s Power Development Plan VIII, contributing to rising electricity demand and the country’s net-zero emissions goals.

As part of the agreement signed on March 10, 2026, GE Vernova will supply up to four 9HA.02 gas turbines and H78 generators for PV Power’s LNG-fired power plants in Vietnam.

Under the plan, two turbines and generators will be delivered in 2029 for installation at the Quynh Lap LNG power plant, which is expected to have a capacity of more than 1.6 GW. The remaining units will be discussed in future cooperation.

The Quynh Lap LNG project, located in Nghe An province about 220 km south of Hanoi, includes a power plant, an LNG storage tank with a capacity of 250,000 cubic meters, and a dedicated LNG port. The project is among PV Power’s priority developments and is expected to be implemented during the 2025 - 2030 period.

The cooperation builds on the successful partnership between the two companies in the Nhon Trach 3 and 4 LNG power projects, which use GE Vernova’s 9HA.02 gas turbine technology. The H-Class turbines feature a combined-cycle efficiency of more than 63% and can reduce carbon emissions by around 60% compared with coal-fired power plants of similar capacity.

According to PV Power Chairman Hoang Van Quang, LNG-fired power is expected to play a key role in ensuring Vietnam’s energy security and supporting the country’s energy transition.

GE Vernova President and CEO Scott Strazik said the company looks forward to continuing its cooperation with PV Power in developing high-efficiency gas-fired power projects and supporting Vietnam’s sustainable energy transition./.
