According to Decision 610, the project involves the construction of a new double-circuit 500 kV overhead transmission line, approximately 35.5 kilometers in length. The line will run from the 500 kV LNG Quang Ninh Substation to a connection point that loops into one existing circuit of the 500 kV Quang Ninh – Hiep Hoa transmission line.
The transmission route will pass through Cua Ong and Mong Duong wards and Thong Nhat commune in Quang Ninh Province. The alignment of the 500 kV LNG Quang Ninh – Quang Ninh line was previously agreed upon by the Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee under Official Document No. 1978/UBND-XD&MT dated June 18, 2025.
The project is scheduled to be completed and put into operation within 48 months from the date the investor is granted land allocation or lease.
Upon completion, the transmission line will help evacuate the output capacity of the LNG Quang Ninh Thermal Power Plant, enhance the transmission capability of existing lines, and meet the growing electricity demand driven by socio-economic development in Northern Vietnam, particularly in the northern mountainous provinces.

The project will also strengthen the operational safety and stability of the national power system, improve interregional connectivity, and reduce transmission losses on the grid.
The LNG Quang Ninh Power Plant project is being jointly developed by a consortium comprising Petrovietnam Power Corporation (PV Power), Vietnam Mechanical and Installation Joint Stock Company (Colavi – specializing in mechanical fabrication), Tokyo Gas, and Marubeni Corporation.
The project scale includes a 1,500 MW gas-fired power plant, a 500 kV switchyard, an LNG import terminal, gas pipelines, and storage facilities, with a total investment of approximately USD 2.2 billion.
Once operational, the plant is expected to supply around 9 billion kWh of electricity per year to the national grid and contribute approximately VND 57.7 trillion to the local budget over 25 years.
