 - On February 23, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son and a government delegation paid a visit and held a working session with Vietnam Electricity (EVN) on the first working day of the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026.

In his directive remarks, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that despite ongoing global and domestic challenges, EVN had successfully fulfilled its mandate to ensure a reliable electricity supply for socio-economic development, national defense, and security, making an important contribution to Vietnam’s GDP growth of over 8% in 2025. Notably, the Government highly appreciated EVN’s performance in maintaining safe and uninterrupted power supply during the Lunar New Year 2026, with no power shortages reported nationwide, helping people across the country enjoy a joyful and warm Tet holiday after a year marked by severe natural disasters and floods.

For 2026, the Deputy Prime Minister requested EVN to continue upholding a proactive and pioneering spirit, focusing on ensuring sufficient electricity supply to support an economic growth target of over 10%, as Vietnam’s growth structure is rapidly shifting toward high-tech industries such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and data centers, which require substantially higher electricity consumption. Accordingly, EVN is expected to maintain an annual electricity growth rate of at least 15%, effectively implement the adjusted Power Development Plan VIII, and accelerate the progress of key national power generation and transmission projects to ensure timely completion with high quality, meeting socio-economic development needs.

Regarding power transmission, the Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged EVN’s achievements in implementing major national projects in recent years, while calling for continued expansion and improvement of the transmission system to ensure synchronization between power generation and grid development, avoiding situations where power sources are completed but transmission infrastructure lags.

On international cooperation, EVN was urged to further promote cross-border electricity trading with Laos, China, Cambodia, and other regional countries, effectively implementing intergovernmental commitments, including the target of increasing electricity imports from Laos to approximately 8,000 MW by 2030, thereby contributing to regional energy security.

Concerning the Ninh Thuan 1 Nuclear Power Plant project, the Government has completed negotiations on the intergovernmental agreement with the Russian side. The Deputy Prime Minister requested EVN to urgently prepare human resources, enhance management capacity, and gradually master technology throughout the project implementation process, laying the foundation for the future development of Vietnam’s nuclear power industry.

Chairman of the Members’ Council of EVN Dang Hoang An respectfully acknowledged and committed to fully implementing the Deputy Prime Minister’s directives. On behalf of EVN’s leadership and employees, he expressed sincere gratitude for the Government’s, the Prime Minister’s, and the Deputy Prime Minister’s close attention and guidance.

Chairman Dang Hoang An noted that in 2025, EVN achieved comprehensive results, ensuring safe and stable electricity supply for socio-economic development while maintaining a high level of investment in construction. The Group recorded the highest disbursement value among state-owned economic groups and corporations. Many key power generation and transmission projects were completed, enhancing the capacity of the national power system. EVN’s indicators for power supply reliability and electricity access continued to rank among the top four in ASEAN, to reach the top three by 2030.

Entering 2026 and the coming period, EVN identified the task of ensuring national energy security under the country’s double-digit growth targets as particularly challenging. The Group will continue to accelerate investment in power generation and grid development, maintaining an average annual investment of approximately VND 123 trillion through 2030, while expediting key transmission projects to ensure synchronization between power sources and the grid.

In international cooperation, EVN is actively implementing power grid interconnection projects with Laos, advancing the goal of importing at least 8,000 MW of electricity by 2030 and studying further expansion when conditions permit, while continuing to implement electricity exchange agreements with other countries in the region.
