From July 2019, Viet Capital Bank (VCBANK) has implemented a consumer trust loan package with a support up to 100% capital for individual customers to install the rooftop solar power projects for the need of daily living or production and business.

The rooftop solar system in Ninh Thuan power company (PC) has been put into operation at the end of the first quarter of 2018. In operation for two months, this system has generated a total output of 32,950 kWh accounted average generation of 540 kWh/day. Beside the supplying for Ninh Thuan PC self-use the system  has generated to the national power system about16,000 kWh.

The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has just issued a Notice to the Electricity Corporations, Electricity Telecommunications and Information Technology Companies about the purchase price of electricity from rooftop solar power systems in 2024.

According to Vietnam News Agency (VNA), on September 11, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a loan agreement worth 13.8 million USD to finance Vietnam Green Yellow Smart Solutions Company (Green Yellow) to deploy the rooftop solar power system for increasing the clean energy supply at affordable prices for business and manufacturing customers. This is ADB's first grant in its rooftop solar power investment portfolio for the production and business segment in Vietnam.

The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) have coordinated to organize an international experience-sharing Workshop on rooftop solar power development (under the self-production, self-consumption mechanism). The Workshop was held in the form of face-to-face and online for all EVN units.

The Prime Minister's Decision No. 13/2020 / QD-TTg dated April 6, 2020 on the mechanism to encourage solar power development in Vietnam will expire after the date 31/12/2020 and so far there is no new Decision of the Prime Minister and the next guidance of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) for these issues. Therefore, the EVN should stop receiving and solving requirements on connection and signing power purchase agreement (PPA) for the rooftop solar power projects developed after December 31, 2020 until the new guidelines from the competence authorities.

On March 12, 2020 Hanoi Electricity Corporation (EVNHANOI) and SONHA Group signed an agreement to cooperate in developing the rooftop solar power systems in Hanoi city.

Today in Khanh Hoa province, there are more than 500 rooftop solar power projects connected to the national grid. Through the metering system, after consumption of customers, the excess electricity of more than 3.5 million kWh from a total output of the rooftop solar power projects transmitted to the power grid.

The Sai Gon Power Company has signed net-metering contracts with households in districts 1 and 3 that have rooftop solar power panels.
