The Prime Minister has just issued a document to agree with the proposal of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) in principle on the ceiling price (maximum price) as 6.95 USCent/kWh for importing wind power from Laos. The average electricity price for the whole life of the project at the time of negotiation agreed between the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and investor must be not exceed this ceiling price.

The Danish Embassy has just had the 3rd meeting with Hai Phong City People’s Committee (CPC) on implementing an offshore wind power project with a total capacity of 3,900MW and a total investment of about 13.6 billion USD.

In this paper, the author will preliminarily evaluate the net capacity factor of a 600 MW offshore wind farm if it is developed in offshore water zones inVietnam, using wind turbines with a rated power of 10 MW (typical for the development trend of current wind power technology). As well as evaluate the change in capacity factor of this wind farm during the year. Does it bring any benefits to the power system in Vietnam or not?

The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has just sent a document to the Ministry of Industry and Trade on EVN expectation to reduce a large capacity of the wind power projects in 2021.

The remaining coal resources of Vietnam are forecasted to be quite large, but not large explorative reserves, especially since the mining conditions are increasingly difficult, increasing the costs, which makes it difficult to compete with imported coal sources. As there is no State clear mechanism and policy for coal import, that leads to difficulties for enterprises to deploy coal import, as well as invest in coal mining abroad.

The feed-in tariff for wind power projects could rise above the currently regulated 7.8 US cents in an effort to pave the way for the development of more wind power projects in Vietnam.
