What situation of the wind power projects in 2021?

 - The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has just sent a document to the Ministry of Industry and Trade on EVN expectation to reduce a large capacity of the wind power projects in 2021.

In this document, EVN informed that, up to now, EVN has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) with 113 wind power projects, with a total capacity of 6,038 MW. Based on reports of the investors, progress of construction investment and commercial operation of the wind power projects as follows:

1 / The number of projects that have already put into commercial operation as 12 projects with a total capacity of 582 MW.

2 / The number of projects that expect to be put into commercial operation before October 31, 2021 as 87 projects with a total capacity of 4,432 MW.

3 / The number of projects that cannot be put into commercial operation before December 31, 2021 as 14 projects with a total capacity of 1,024 MW.

According to EVN, in the coming time, Nho Quan - Ha Tinh 500 kV line must be cut for connecting the Nghi Son 2 power plant and a number of 500 kV and 220 kV lines must be cut for connecting 500 kV Vung Ang – Doc Soi line (the third 500 kV circuit), the renewable energy projects should be reduced.

In general, during the months at the flood season and at the end of 2021, especially at holidays and Luna New Year days, the surplus of power generation will be very large in condition of the high rate of renewable energy projects in the power system, the reducing level of the renewable energy projects may reach 3000/6500 MW at the noontime of working days or weekends in period from July to September/2021 with reduced output of 180 GWh/month, and the reducing level of renewable energy projects may reach 6800/10800MW with 350 – 400 GWh/month in period from October to December /2021, when the flood season in the Center and Southern regions reaches a peak time.

EVN still considers that in the case, if there will be more additionally renewable energy projects put into operation or the HPPs simultaneously discharge water, the capacity reduce of the renewable energy projects should be even higher.
