On October, 26 2016 in Ho Chi Minh city, the representatives of WB Energy-Mineral group held a meeting to introduce its plan for implementing a supporting project to relevant agencies of HCM city.

The Tay Ninh Provincial People's Committee (PPC) has just had  a document for proposing the Ministry of Industry and Trade to approve supplementing 15 Solar PV projects into the Provincial Power Development Planning in 2011-2015 period with a vision to 2020.

The People’s Committee of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province has just sent an official document to ask the General Department of Energy (GDE), Ministry of Industry and Trade to appraise and submit for Prime Minister’s approval supplementing 100MW solar PV project in Chau Duc Industrial Zone into National Power Development Planning.

  Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) has officially issued the Circular No16/2017/TT-BCT on grid connected and rooftop solar power development in which regulates the National Solar Power Development Planning (NSPDP) to be made once only. The following updates, additions and corrections for NSPDP are made when adjusting the National Power Development Planning (NPDP). Making, approving and announcing the NSPP are stipulated in the Prime Minister Decision No11/2017/QĐ-TTg on the mechanisms to stimulate developing solar power projects in Vietnam.

Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Hoang Trung Hai asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) to study perfecting the mechanisms to support the solar power development.

JA Solar announced today that its industry-leading DeepBlue 3.0 PV module was chosen for a large rooftop solar project in Vietnam. JA Solar is supplying 2882 modules, equal to capacity of 1570.69kW, that will power the local operations of Yuzhan Group, a renowned package manufacturer that has supplied products to major companies such as Goretek, Foxconn, and Samsung. Upon the completion of the project, the yearly estimated electrical output of 1700MWh will help Yuzhan substantially reduce its cost of power, while also reducing its CO2 emissions by approximately 1438 tons annually.

The Minister of Industry and Trade has just issued Circular No. 18/2020 / TT-BCT to regulate development and model power purchase agreement (PPA) for the solar power projects (Circular 18).

On April 6, 2020, the Prime Minister issued Decision No 13/2020 (for replacing the Decision No 11/2017 invalid from June 30, 2019) on the incentive mechanism for solar power development in Vietnam. This decision takes effect on May 22, 2020.

Vietnam is one of the recognized renewable energy markets in the world, particularly in Southeast Asia region. It has a great potential to develop solar power, especially in its central and south regions. As the world is facing impacts of COVID-19 and the countries are bouncing back, the energy demand has been high like never before. Vietnam's energy demand is expected to grow by over 10 percent by the end of this year and by 8 percent per year in the next decade.

Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has approved a resolution on studying orientation for solar power development to supplement clean electricity source for the country.

On May 11, Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Trinh Dinh Dung chaired a meeting with representatives of several ministries and businesses to develop mechanisms for encouraging solar power development  before reporting at the meeting of Government permanent members for the Prime Minister to sign the decision.

On October 23, 2015 Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Hoang Trung Hai, Head of the State Steering Committee of the Power Planning VII chaired a meeting on establishing mechanisms to support the development of solar power projects and assigning the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) to establish ahead mechanisms for providing with the promises to promote developing and using renewable energy sources, including solar power, in a spirit to aid the projects and programs of developing and using solar power to get preferential treatment for the investment, price and tax.

Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), the United Kingdom (UK), the Dragon Capital Group (DCG) and the Energy Conservation Center (ECC), Ho Chi Minh City have announced a program on supporting Vietnam's businesses in solar power development.

On Jan 5, Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Hoang Trung Hai chaired a meeting with the concerned ministries and agencies for  directing to set the mechanisms for supporting development of solar power projects (SPP) - a sector now being encouraged in investment to solve the clean energy problem and sustainable development.

The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) have coordinated to organize an international experience-sharing Workshop on rooftop solar power development (under the self-production, self-consumption mechanism). The Workshop was held in the form of face-to-face and online for all EVN units.
