According to the National Steering Committee on Power Development, currently, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has a lot of power grid projects to be behind schedule due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

BP Solar 1 solar power plant in the south central province of Ninh Thuan was inaugurated on January 20, becoming the first Vietnamese constructed project to get connected to the national grid so far.

The National Power Transmission Corporation (EVN NPT) has just held a starting ceremony for an unconstrained loan of US$170 million from Nippon Export Investment Insurance (NEXI) for Vinh Tan Power Center – Song May turn – Tan Uyen transmission line investment. It is the result of over a year of active preparation for lending procedures between the sides.

On Sep 28 morning , 2014, at Ly Son Island district (Quang Ngai province), Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee held an Inauguration Ceremony of the project supplying Ly Son Island district with electricity from the national power system by the submarine cable. Dong Nai People's Committee has just submitted a document to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) for considering and appraising 8 solar power projects to submit to the Prime Minister for additional approving these projects to the National Power Development Planning (NPDP) up to 2025.

On July 12, in Hanoi, Mr. Tran Dinh Nhan - General Director of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), had a working with Mr. Stephan Opitz - General Director in charge of Europe - Asia regions of the German Reconstruction Bank (KfW). Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) informed that to the end of Sept. 2016, the group has completed 182 power grid projects including 7, 29 and 146 projects of 500 kV, 220 kV and 110 kV respectively.

Recently, the World Bank's independent evaluation team (IEG team) of the World Bank (WB) worked with the Ministries, Agencies, National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), and the units for accessing the efficiency of Transmission power grid (TEP) funding by WB loan capital.

On September 29, 2020, in Quan The Hamlet, Phuoc Minh Commune, Thuan Nam District, Ninh Thuan Province, Trung Nam Investment and Construction Joint Stock Company (Trungnam Group) successfully energizing the first super high voltage project invested in Vietnam by private sector as 500 kV transformer substation with a capacity of 2x900 MVA and combined 500/220 kV transmission line (500kV and 220 kV lines on the same tower) with a length of 17 km for releasing power capacity of Trung Nam Thuan Nam solar power project with a capacity of 450 MW project

One of the targets on production, business and investment development plans of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) up to 2020 is to reach the N-1criterion for power grids of high voltages from 110 kV up by 2020.

On September 6, 2023, in Ho Chi Minh City, The Power Engineering Construction Consulting Joint Stock Company 2 (PECC2) signed a consulting contract to survey and establish a feasibility study report and specialized reports of the project to supply power from the national grid for Con Dao district (Ba Ria - Vung Tau province) with Power Project Management Board 3 – The Representative of ing Vietnam Electricity of Vietnam (A project investor).

  Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) has officially issued the Circular No16/2017/TT-BCT on grid connected and rooftop solar power development in which regulates the National Solar Power Development Planning (NSPDP) to be made once only. The following updates, additions and corrections for NSPDP are made when adjusting the National Power Development Planning (NPDP). Making, approving and announcing the NSPP are stipulated in the Prime Minister Decision No11/2017/QĐ-TTg on the mechanisms to stimulate developing solar power projects in Vietnam.
