Successfully energizing the first 500kV power grid projects invested by private sector in Vietnam

The first 500 kV super-high voltage power transmission line invested and built by the private sector has been successfully energized.

The 500 kV transformer with a capacity of 900 MVA the largest capacity scale currently in the world is manufactured by the world leading equipment company – German SIEMENS. The combined 500/220 kV transmission line with a length of 17 km from Phuoc Minh commune, Thuan Nam district, Ninh Thuan province to Vinh Tan commune, Tuy Phong district, Binh Thuan province.

 Construction on the terrain with full of obstacles and difficult of access.

After 4.5 months (from the date of starting construction – mid May 2020), with great efforts of all the forces participating in the projects, today 450 MW solar power plant, 500kV transformer substation and 500/220 kV transmission line including the technical test for them have been completed.

The completing and putting into operation 450 MW Trung Nam Thuan Nam Solar Power Plant, 500 kV transformer substation and 500/220 transmission line has a number of important meanings:

Firstly: Contributing to realize 115 Resolution of the Government to make Ninh Thuan a National center of Renewable Energy (RE).

Secondly: Making an important contribution to releasing the capacity of renewable energy plants in Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan areas, avoiding generation reduce, causing losses of thousand billion VND per year for RE projects and contributing to solving the problem of the electricity shortage but renewable energy projects reduce generation.

Thirdly: Adding more than 1 billion kWh of electricity per year to the national power system to replace non-renewable power sources and by that contributing to the environmental protection.

Fourthly: Thoroughly grasping 55 Resolution of the Party Politburo on promoting the renewable energy development, and participation of private sector in developing power plants and power transmission grid.

By completing these projects, Trung Nam Group has become the first private investor in Vietnam to participate in developing power transmission grid and at present following this group, there are several private companies propose to invest in transmission grid for releasing capacity of their RE projects  to the national power system.

It is expected that, in coming period when Electricity Law would be adjusted with the clear legal corridor, these transmission projects should be a typical example to replicate the contribution and share of burden on investment in grid infrastructure of social resources for the State.
