The People's Committee of Hanoi has just issued the Plan No. 50/KH-UBND dated March 1, 2021, on developing renewable energy in the city to 2021 with a goal to increase 15 MWp of the rooftop solar power projects (average capacity of 0.5 MWp per a district) and develop 75 MW of waste –to - energy projects.

Gia Lai is one of the provinces with a large potential to develop renewable energy, has an average sunshine hour number of 1,900-2,200 hours per year, total solar radiation of 335-380 kcal/cm2 or daily average solar radiation about 4.6-5.2 kWh/m2. The total potential for developing solar power projects (SPPs) in Gia Lai is 7500 MW, among which more than 5000 MW for ground projects and 2500 MW for floating projects.

  On March 22, 2018 in Hanoi, under the witness of Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh and Korean Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Paik Un Gyu, the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and Korean partners as Korea South-East Power Co., Ltd; Doosan  Heavy Industries & Construction Co., Ltd and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) on  the cooperation to develop the Wind Power Pilot and  Offshore Energy Storage System, and the Cooperation Agreement in Power sector.  

On December 11, 2017, in Hanoi at the working meeting on renewable energy (RE) development between Mr. Tran Tuan Anh, the Minister of Industry and Trade (MoIT) and Mr. Ousmane Dione, the National Director of the World Bank (WB) in Vietnam, Mr. Ousmane Dione asked Vietnam to modify the power purchase agreement (PPA) on RE in accordance with the most common international practice under the neutral jurisdiction.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) has just sent a report to the Prime Minister on studying and developing a direct power purchase (DPPA) mechanism between renewable energy generators and large electricity users.

UPC Renewables Group and IPC Group have signed a JDA to seize opportunities for joint development of wind power projects in Vietnam.

On November 2, a mission of the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) headed by Mr. Tran Duy Dong, Deputy Minister had a working meeting with the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) on formulating policies for the large state own enterprises. At the meeting, PVN proposed to license it to invest in the offshore renewable energy projects for taking advantage of PVN current resources and infrastructures to contribute to meeting the needs and commitments of Vietnam at COP26.

Energy ministers of the 10-nation Association of Southeast Asian Nations, meeting from November 17 to 20 at an online summit hosted by Vietnam, set a target of a 23 percent renewable energy share by 2025.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany, Dr. Nguyen Minh Vu, recently met with Großmann Ingenieur Consult GmbH (GICON®) and the Vietnam Petroleum Institute (VPI) to promote co-operation in the field of renewable energy in Vietnam.

During the State visit of the Korean President Moon Jae-in to Vietnam, on March 22, 2018 in Hanoi, under the witness of Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh and Korean Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Paik Un Gyu, the Chairman of the Vietnam Energy Association (VEA) Tran Viet Ngai and Vice Chairman of the Korean Society for New And Renewable Energy (KNREA) Kwon-Pyo Hong signed the cooperation agreement on renewable energy.  

A Complex of 650 MW Renewable Energy Project and Resort- Water Park invested by Green Energy Dohwa Company Ltd. (S. Korea) will be developed in Le Thuy district, Quang Binh province.

The planning of medium to small-sized hydropower plants for the safe, efficient and sustainable development of renewable energy was the focus of discussions at a seminar held in Hanoi, on October 5.

Speaking at the working meeting with Chinese Sungrow Power group, Mr. Luong Van Hai, Vice Chairman of Binh Thuan Provincial People’s Committee (PPC) said, this province always “opens the door” for capable and financially viable partners to invest in wind and solar power projects in the province.

The Green Energy Company Ltd Dohwa has already designed drawings and expects to select contractors for implementing ground leveling and some other items of Renewable Energy Complex with Solar PV and Biomass power projects in Quang Binh province in the first quarter of 2017.

Vice President of Ninh Thuan Provicial People's Committee (PPC) Tran Xuan Hoa signed a paper to recall LandVille Energy Corporation (Korea) to the delay of implementing procedures for investing wind power  project in accordance with PPC approvement.
