During the term 2015-2020, the Party Committee of Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Group (Vinacomin) has renovated and strongly promoted the scientific and technological development as application of mechanization, automation and computerization in the production and business activities. 

In May, 20th, 2015, Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) had set up a conference for accepting the scientific and technological theme “Study on the establishment of the criterion set for evaluating the level of the technological innovation and modernization in the coal and solid minerals mining and processing field in Vietnam”.

The Vietnamese coal industry will focus on strengthening the application of scientific and technological advances in production to increase labor productivity, reduce costs, and ensure worker safety in order to drive towards sustainable development.

According to the plan, on May 7, 2021, in Ho Chi Minh City, the "International Forum on Finance and Technology for Clean Energy Projects in Vietnam (first time)" and Voting "The TOP prestigious electrical equipment brands in Vietnam in 2020". However, due to complying with the measures to prevent and control the Covid-19 epidemic of the Government and the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, the Forum had to stop right before one day. Faced with the situation of "force majeure" due to the pandemic, the experts and managers discussed and contributed opinions, the Science Council of Vietnam Energy Magazine decided to make a report and recommendations on a number of mechanisms and policies for the sustainable development of clean energy in Vietnam to the Prime Minister, the Head of the Central Economic Commission, the Minister of Industry and Trade as well as related ministries and industries.

Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) strives to develop the oil and gas industry into the country’s most important economic-technical sector by finding solutions and technologies for oil and gas exploration, exploitation, and processing.

Speaking at the National Conference on the Power Science and Technology - 2017 in Ha Noi on November 15, 2017, Mr. Ngo Son Hai, Vice General Director of EVN expressed: “Being a sector with the high technological content, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) always confirms science and technology as a key platform and a driving force for it to guarantee sufficient electricity supply for socio-economic development and defense security of the country”.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Viet Thanh when addressing the ASEAN-EU Science, Technology and Innovation Days 2016 organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology in Hanoi said, “The EU remains Vietnam’s important partner in scientific and technological cooperation and innovation.”

The Government has issued the Decree No. 41/2016 / ND-CP on licensing foreign organizations and individuals to conduct scientific research in Vietnam's waters.

PM Nguyen Tan Dung asked local authorities in the Mekong Delta to actively launch the Party and State’s guidelines, policies and laws concerning  science and technology development and application to improve the competitiveness of each locality in particular and the region in general.

A sustainable socioeconomic development model with a focus on environmental protection is a long-term strategic objective for the country in the current period, which also requires a positive application of domestic and foreign scientific and technological advancements.

On Aug 14, in Hanoi,  Rosneft Vietnam Oil and Gas Company and University of Mine - Geology signed an agreement on finance of Rosneft Vietnam for a program of students making scientific research and a competition of designing robots for exploration and exploitation of mineral resources, with a value  of $ 35,000.

On June 4, in Hanoi, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), British Embassy in Vietnam and Steering Committee for Building Information Modeling (BIM) application project under the Ministry of Construction signed a letter of intent (LOI) for BIM application at Tri An Extended Hydropower Plant Project (HPP) with a capacity of 200 MW.

Vinacomin in coordination with Business Administration College – Vinacomin has recently held a workshop on “ 3D laser scanning technology application in coal mining”  in Ha Long city, Quang Ninh province.

On December 9, 2020, in Hanoi, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) held a ceremony for announcing to deploy "electricity bill with Quick Response (QR) code application. This event marks the process of continuing to apply new technologies and solutions to bring the most convenience to electricity customers in the country.
