Recently in Hanoi, Mr. Tran Dinh Nhan - General Director of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) just had a working meeting with a high-level delegation of the French Development Agency (AFD) on cooperation between the two sides. Attending the meeting were Mr. Philippe Le Houerou - Chairman of the Board of Directors of the French Development Agency.

The Government Office issued Notice 216/TB-VPCP on June 8, 2023, at the conclusion of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha at the meeting on the situation of electricity supply in the dry season in 2023. In conclusion, the Government requested Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) to develop scenarios for managing electricity supply according to the guidance of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) including the scenarios of lacking power plants and having to cut off electricity.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has warned that the northern power grid faces a shortfall of approximately 4,350MW. It has a median daily generation of approximately 30.9 million kWh; however, the largest daily output can reach 50.8 million kWh.

The electricity of Vietnam (EVN) forecasted that in the next June and July, the North will enter the peak hot weather and the load of the national power system will increase higher than planned. With the hydrological situation and the slow progress of new power projects, the North would likely lack thousands of MW of electricity in this hot season.

The Government Office has just issued a notice on the conclusions of Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha at the meeting on perfecting the National Power Development Planning for the period of 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 (PDP VIII). Mr. Nguyen Hong Dien - Minister of Industry and Trade (MOIT) and Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh - Chairman of the Committee for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises (the Committee) had a working meeting with the state-owned groups in the energy field as the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV) and Petroleum of Vietnam (PVN).

On February 17 and 18, 2023, Mr. Rémy Rioux - General Director of the French Development Agency (AFD), President of the International Development Finance Club (IDFC), and President of the Summit General Finance (FICS) visited and worked in Vietnam and Electricity of Vietnam (EVN). The visit is for preparing the Summit Conference on the New Summit Global Financial Agreement to be held in June 2023 in Paris.

On February 15 in Hanoi, Mr. Nguyen Hong Dien - Minister of Industry and Trade (MOIT), and Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh - Chairman of the Committee for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises (CMSCE) co-chaired a meeting with the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) to discuss a number of investment projects for developing the power plants and power grids, the financial balance of EVN in 2022 - 2023 and develop a plan for the average retail price of electricity in 2023.

On February 14, 2023, in Hanoi, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam (AGRIBANK) held a ceremony to sign a credit contract worth VND 2,400 billion for the extended Ialy Hydropower Project. The extended Ialy Hydropower Project has been approved by the Prime Minister for investment policy, and its feasibility study project was approved by the Committee for Management of State Capital at Enterprises.

On the afternoon of February 13 in Hanoi, Mr. Duong Quang Thanh - Chairman of the Council Members of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) had an online meeting with Mr. Meng Zhenping - Chairman of China Southern Power Grid Company Limited (CSG) for summarizing the projects and cooperation activities between the two sides in 2022 and exchanging orientations on development and cooperation in 2023.

On the morning of February 5, 2023, in the Conference on the Investment Promotion and Deployment of implementing the action plan of the Politburo Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW, happening in Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh province, Mr. Nguyen Hong Dien, the Minister of Industry and Trade (MOIT) handed the decision on approving the investment policy of Son My 2 Gas Power Project (CCGT) with a capacity of 2.2 GW and a total investment of 1.8 billion US$ to Vietnam AES Company. The project is developed in Binh Thuan province having a 20-year contract with the Vietnamese Government.
