Kick-off of the Cai Mep industrial gas plant project (Ho Chi Minh City)

 - According to information from the PetroVietnam (PVN) [*], the PetroVietnam Chemical and Services Corporation (PVChem) - a PVN subsidiary and Messer SE Co. KGaA (Germany) have signed a Joint Venture Agreement to establish Cái Mép Industrial Gas Co., Ltd. Under this agreement, the PVChem–Messer Joint Venture will invest in building an industrial gas plant in the Cái Mép Industrial Park (Ho Chi Minh City).

The industrial gas plant project in the Cái Mép Industrial Park has a designed capacity of 200,000 tons of industrial gases per year and a total investment of approximately USD 35 million. The project is expected to start construction in Q3 2026 and begin commercial operation in Q3 2028.

The Cái Mép Industrial Gas Plant is designed in line with a green and circular economy model, utilizing cold energy from PV GAS's LNG storage system to provide deep refrigeration for gas separation. The plant will apply Cryogenic Air Separation (CAS) technology from Europe, combined with the recovery of cold energy generated during LNG regasification. This approach significantly reduces electricity consumption and cooling water demand, thereby lowering indirect CO₂ emissions and enhancing overall environmental efficiency. The Cái Mép plant will play a critical role in PVN’s value chain of LNG – industrial gases – clean energy, contributing to energy efficiency, CO₂ reduction, and optimization of existing gas infrastructure.

This is not only a pioneering project in energy transition and circular economy for PVN and PVChem, but also a key initiative assigned to PVChem to promote the national energy strategy.

The project will leverage cold energy from PV GAS’s Thị Vải LNG Terminal for deep cooling instead of relying solely on electricity. This means the energy by-product of one unit becomes the input for another, exemplifying industrial symbiosis.

In this project, PV GAS will play a pivotal role by ensuring a stable and reliable supply of cold energy from the LNG terminal - an essential condition for the project’s success.
