On December 4, 2021 in Hanoi held a meeting between the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) on the situation of coal supply for power production in 2021 and preparing the plan to supply coal for EVN's thermal power plants in 2022.

Siemens has signed contracts with the state-owned utility General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) to expand Libya’s power generation capacity by approximately 1.3 gigawatts (GW). Under these contracts Siemens will build a 650 MW open cycle power plant in Misrata, equipped with two F-class gas turbines, and a 690 MW open cycle power plant in Tripoli West, equipped with four E‑class gas turbines.The total volume of EPC contracts, including long-term service agreements, is in the range of 700 million euros.

The world finally got the belief in science that GHG emission is the cause of global warming and climate change in almost 30 years since the first COP meeting in 1995. NetZero in 2050 would be possible if relevant policies and inter-governmental agreements were implemented. Of which, energy transition, and practical technology in power generation, parallel with good perception and awareness of GHG reduction are the keys. 04 main technologies are carbon capture, utilization and storage; fuel switching, renewable energy, and emission trading are selected to bring to 100s of energy experts and engineers in 10s power generation plants in Viet Nam for the assessment of perception and awareness of the technologies. However, a preliminary study showed that technological innovation and carbon markets are starting to drive the GHG target down to the green road in many countries.

According to a report of Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Holding Corporation (Vinacomin), In the first 6 months of 2023, Vinacomin provided over 21.16 million tons of coal for power production, reaching 55% of the plan, up 16% (equivalent to an increase of 3 million tons over the same period in 2022). Vinacomin has been highly appreciated by the Prime Minister in managing production, increasing coal for thermal power plants, and contributing to ensuring electricity supply during peak heat waves.

Information from the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN) said that Mr. Hoang Quoc Vuong - Chairman of the Member Council of PetroVietnam (PVN) has just received and a working meeting with Mr. Jonathan Cole - General Director of Corio Generation Company (Australia) - Member of Macquarie's Green Investment Group (the world's largest offshore wind power company).

The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) informed that the increase of fuel prices lead to EVN power generation and purchase costs increased by more than 16,000 billion VND over the same period in 2020.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) has just promulgated Circular No. 57/2020/TT-BCT (Circular 57) on the method for defining electricity generation prices and the order for checking power purchase agreement (PPA), and on amending and supplementing a number of clauses of the Circular No 57/2014/TT-BCT dated 19/12/2014 of MOIT minister on the method and order to formulating and promulgating the framework of electricity generation prices.

At 03:50 am on June 15, 2017, Phu My thermal power company - an independent accounting company of Power Generation Corporation No3 (GENCO 3) has become the first power company in Vietnam to generate 250 billion kWh - a highest output so far in Vietnam to the national power system.

Siemens has signed contracts worth €8 billion for high-efficiency natural gas-fired power plants and wind power installations that will boost Egypt’s power generation capacity by more than 50 percent compared to the currently installed base. The projects will add an additional 16.4 gigawatts (GW) to Egypt’s national grid to support the country’s rapid economic development and meet its growing population’s demand for power.

The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has just issued a document to request the Electricity Power Trading Company (EPTC) to calculate and develop a power generation price framework for the wind and solar power projects according to the method of developing a power generation price frame of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT).

In the first 6 months of 2022, Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) has exceeded the set-out plan on coal production and sale for ensuring not to break the coal supply chain for power generation and economic development and to contribute to the national energy security guarantee.

According to PetroVietnam Power Corporation (PV Power) information, on November 17th , 2014, Ca Mau Thermal Power Plant reached a 50 million kWh generation milestone, after an over 7 year operation period.

New wind and solar projects continue to dominate recent global capacity increases. But when dispatchable power is required, particularly in developing countries, coal remains the fuel of choice for utility-scale plants. Global coal use for power generation continues to rise primarily due to rapid growth of the Indian, African, and Asian power markets that value low cost solid fuels.

On May 9, Mr. Tran Dinh Nhan, General Director and Mission of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and worked with Vinacomin leaders in Hanoi and Coal Northeast Corporation (CNC) in Quang Ninh, on coal supply for power generation, especially in the peak hot months of 2023.
