On August 28, 2020, in Hanoi, Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) held the first workshop on the National Energy Master Plan (NEMP) for 2021-2030 period, with a vision up to 2050.

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has just signed a Decision for approving the content of ‘The National Energy Master Plan in 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050’. 

Prime Ministry has approved the Master Plan for Vietnam Gas Industry Development to 2025 with an outlook up to 2035.

On August 17, 2023, in Ho Chi Minh City. In Ho Chi Minh City, the Committee on Science, Technology and Environment of the Vietnam National Assembly collaboration with the Science Council of Vietnam Energy Review organize a workshop on "Implementation of Power Development Plan VIII - Challenges and Policy Suggestions". Specifically: Session 1: Identifying challenges for the investors of power plants and power grid, Session 2: The important, preference projects and policies, solutions of the State for implementation, Session 3: The policies, solutions on capitals, technologies, and service supply chain.

The Prime Minister has approved Decision No. 1208/QĐ - TTg dated July 21st, 2011 on the National Master Plan for Power Development for the 2011 - 2020 period with the vision to 2030 with the detailed articles as follows:

The Prime Minister issued Decision No.2414 dated December 11, 2013 on amending the list and schedule of a number of power projects in the period 2013-2020, stipulating some special mechanisms and policies for implementing urgent power projects in order to meet  power demand in 2014-2020 and after 2020 periods.

The People's Committee of Hanoi has just issued the Plan No. 50/KH-UBND dated March 1, 2021, on developing renewable energy in the city to 2021 with a goal to increase 15 MWp of the rooftop solar power projects (average capacity of 0.5 MWp per a district) and develop 75 MW of waste –to - energy projects.

Mr. Tran Dinh Nhan - General Director and the mission of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) just had a working meeting at the Electricity of Cambodia (EDC) in Phnom Penh. At the meeting, the two sides discussed the plan for the expansion of electricity trading cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia in the coming time.

The country’s geographical location, climate conditions and agricultural activities give Vietnam in general and its northern plains and midland area in particular a plentiful potential and diversity of renewable energy resources (RE) which are exploitable and useful such as hydropower, biomass, wind energy, solar energy, geothermal energy, biofuel resources and other new energy resources. However, so far effective exploitation and utilization of renewable energies in general and renewable electricity in particular in these areas are still limited in comparison with their potential. 

The Vietnamese petroleum industry has collaborated with high-level domestic research and consulting agencies to successfully conduct a good number of R&D (research & development) projects, resulting in important economic effects and regional and global significance.

The UK’s Amec Foster Wheeler Energy Limited ( Foster Wheeler) has been hired to outline a master design for the project to expand and upgrade the Dung Quat oil refinery in the central coastal province of Quang Ngai, which is expected to increase its capacity to 8.5 million tonnes per year.

Within the framework of the 26th Conference of the participates in the Framework Convention of United Nations on Climate Change (COP26) taking place in the United Kingdom, under the witness of Vietnamese Prime Minister (PM) Pham Minh Chinh, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (RE) and BCG Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Siemens Gamesa RE providing BCG Energy with equipment and technical solutions for wind power development in Vietnam.

In addition to its “Light up the Spratly Islands” project, Vietnamese renewable energy firm SolarBK, in 2009, installed a hybrid power supply system using both wind and solar energy with a capacity of 824kWh per day.

The 2018 Korea Energy Exhibition hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy was the 38th largest ever event with a participation of the 6th National Museum of Renewable Energy.
