At the meeting on June 11, 2020 with the Power Corporations, Mr. Tran Dinh Nhan, the General Director of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) affirmed the viewpoint of EVN as "creating condition for maximum support to encourage investors in developing rooftop solar power Systems (RSPSs)".

JA Solar announced today that its industry-leading DeepBlue 3.0 PV module was chosen for a large rooftop solar project in Vietnam. JA Solar is supplying 2882 modules, equal to capacity of 1570.69kW, that will power the local operations of Yuzhan Group, a renowned package manufacturer that has supplied products to major companies such as Goretek, Foxconn, and Samsung. Upon the completion of the project, the yearly estimated electrical output of 1700MWh will help Yuzhan substantially reduce its cost of power, while also reducing its CO2 emissions by approximately 1438 tons annually.

LONGi Solar is pleased to announce that it has donated solar modules for a 20.2 kWp rooftop solar system at Vo Thi Sau High School in Con Dao District, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province, through its distribution partner in Vietnam, PowerTech Engineering and Trading Co., Ltd.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) has just issued a document for agreement with the proposal of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) on continuing to receive and deal with requirements about the electricity sale from the rooftop solar power projects (SPPs).

On the basis of the supplement to the power development plan of Tay Ninh province in the period of 2011-2015, with the vision to 2020 of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, up to now, Tay Ninh province has attracted over 14,300 billion of 3 enterprises to invest in solar power projects with a total capacity of 560 MWp in semi- flooded area of Dau Tieng reservoir, belonging to Duong Minh Chau and Tan Chau districts.

Investors have shown interest in solar energy sector in the central coast province of Khanh Hoa, with about 10 solar projects applying for investment licenses in the province.

On December 14, in Hanoi, Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) signed a MOU and Agreement on cooperation in technical assistance to promote developing rooftop solar power in Vietnam.

According to the information of Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), at the present the capacity of rooftop solar power projects (RSPPs) in the South accounts for over 60% the total capacity of solar power projects (SPPs) of EVN (1,142 MWp).

According to the Decision 13/2020/QD-TTg (Decision 13), dated April 6, 2020 of the Prime Minister, on the incentive mechanism for solar power development in Vietnam officially coming into effect from the May 22, 2020 instead of Decision 11/2017/QD-TTg expiring on June 30, 2019, the rooftop solar power projects in coming time expect to be developed very strongly.

The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) anticipated thatthe capacity of rooftop solar power will reachapproximately 2,000 MW by the end of 2020,contributing to ensuring power security.

The Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has just issued a Document No. 3450/EVN-KD, dated July 02, 2019 for guideline to solve the problems on the rooftop solar power projects (RSPPs).

Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) has just sent the official document No 3832/EVN-KD, dated 23/7/2019 to the Power Corporations (PCs), Power Generation Corporations (GENCOs) and Power Generation units under EVN, to request them to speed up the developing the rooftop PV solar power projects with a goal to supplement electricity for the national power system in the current very difficult situation. 

The Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam (ERAV) – Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) clears the petitions of 36 investors of the transitional solar and wind power projects submitted to the Prime Minister (PM). The Vietnam Energy Magazine cites the original explanation of ERAV for reference of the readers:

Today, Dak Lak province has identified the locations, adjusted the capacities and increased the number of solar power projects to numeral 18, occupying an area of 7,494 ha. The most of this area is poorer land, with not effective agricultural and forestry production in Ea Sup, Buon Don, Krong Bong districts…

Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has just worked with leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), and a number of the relevant ministries and agencies to implement the goal in the Power Development Planning VIII (PDP VIII), which is 2030 Vietnam will have 50% of office buildings and 50% of residential houses use self-produce and self-consumption rooftop solar power projects (for on-site consumption, not selling electricity into the national electricity system).
